Let's hear it..

Opinions on the Vortex Viper HSLR 4-16 x 50?

I have 3 other vortex scopes. They have been amazing.

I want to put this on my 270wsm for hunting and range shots out to 800-1000?

Is this the best bang for my buck, so to say, or what options am I not considering given the features that the Viper HSLR offers?

Thanks!!

I won't be able to give a long review but my first impressions with the scope is wonderful. I went and purchased this off a friend a couple weeks ago and the glass is crystal clear. However my model does differ a little with the reticle being the XLR not the BDC. If you could find the XLR I would recommend that, unfortunately it's been discontinued so it may be hard to find.

Current setup is a Sako 85 Hunter Laminated Stainless 300 Win Mag, with the Vortex Viper HS LR 4-16x50 XLR.

Thanks Thranton! Keep me posted if you have any other insight.

How does the turret function? Is it simple to understand? Does the parallax adjust appropriately. Etc?.

This being my first scope with turrets, I really like them. You can feel each click and there's no movement or wiggle to them afterwards. I shot 40 rounds after it was zeroed and it did not lose it. I haven't gone and banged it around yet so I can't speak to that.

I haven't taken it out past 100 yards, however the buddy I bought it from took it out to 700, 800 yards and said it preformed flawlessly with his calculations for turret rotations.

The XLR is still available in 6-24X50. Keep in mind it is FFP.

Ah yes this is true, I was more or less stating that the 4-16x50 isn't available anymore (in canada at least, it looks like you can buy them off the Vortex american site).
