Hey guys

I may get a new scope soon for my 308. It currently has a sightron s tac 3-16x40 but I want more power.

Im interested in the viper hst 6-24x50 (889$) and the sightron s3 6-24x50 LRMOA (1200 ish$)

From my googling the sightron appears a better scope. More adjustment, better optical quality and good reticle. The vortex has a better warranty and seems very nice as well.

Im mostly shooting up to 300y for the moment but may have an opportunity to try 500y and would eventually like to shoot 1000y.

So my questions is, is the sightron s3 worths the 300$ difference? Otherwise I could invest that money in reloading equipment to get started. But I don't want to buy twice, so I want to pick the right scope.

Can you guys elaborate a little?

Im a very new shooter. Will I see a difference in optical quality between the S3 and my current S TAC? My current sightron is great but it has a few minor flaws, namely, very sharp power ring cut outs, very big power ring that will catch the base so it limits eye relief adjustment possibilities without going with crazy high rings and the feel of the turrets is lacking a little.

Would you guys have any other contenders below the sightron s3 price?

I had a hst now I have the s3 the glass is much better ,I bought twice . Saying that the hst FFP is nice and it is more than enough glass for 3-500 yds . And I didn't loose much selling it .Now I'm wishing for another FFP with better glass (than the vortex ) , where does it end ( probably won't lose too much on the sightron either)
P.S - the hst has nicer features like a zero stop (with shims) open elevation turret ,covered windage , better parallax adjustment ( my sightron is really stiff don't think they all are )
The sightron is better at low light - goes with the better glass

Over the years, i bought many brand new scopes...

My personal assesement on them is, i feel the S3 is the entry level scope of the top shelf stuff...

At this day, i have keep 3 that are superb... I will take anytime a S3 if i dont have a S&B available... JP.

The parallax knob on both of my S3's are tight as hell. From what I gather they all are. Check out scope werks if you want to add a big wheel.
