The Vortex Viper and Diamondback are both on sale at Cabela's for boxing day and I am looking for a scope for my rifle.

Here are the Specs for my Rifle right now:
Remington 700 Barreled action 24" .223
MDT LSS Gen2 Chassis
MDT Skeleton Carbine Stock
MDT Pistol Grip
Caldwell XLA Bipod

I'm planning on using my rifle for target shooting only, no hunting. Will be used often on crown land and longer ranges around 500 yards.
Will a Diamondback be good for what I am doing, or would it be better to invest in the Viper for the extra $100?

No comparison between the two. Viper is better all around. Better glass, turrets click better, adjustable parallax, better magnification adjustment ring.

I have the Viper 4-12 on 3 of my coyote rifles and even though I have higher end scopes on other rifles I find the Viper to be my favorite mostly because the large lever (for lack of a better term) on the magnification adjustment ring makes adjustments real quick and easy, especially if you have gloves on.

And the bdc reticle is surprisingly accurate out to 400 yards. This is on a 22-250 with 50gr v-max, 25-06 with 85gr NBT and 243 58gr v-max. I don't think the reticle will be as close with other slower faster dropping calibers but you can always type in your ballistic info into their app and come up with numbers for the reticle's hold over marks that are closer to what you are shooting.

For only $100 difference in pricing I wouldn't even consider the Diamondback.

honestly for what you are doung considering getting the vortex diamondback tactical 6-24x50 or the 4-16x50 their in FFP have great glass and for target shooting likely you will find that preferable to the other models shown thats just my recommendation based on the pricepoint

The good folks at Vortex Support steered me away from an amazing deal on a Strike Eagle and toward the Diamondback Tactical 4-16x50.
