I am going to buy one but can't decide witch to go with I am looking at the 4-16 sfp and the 6-24 sfp I will be using this scope for hunting and target shooting I am leaning towards the 4-16 because it will be more practical hunting but I have heard mixed reviews on the optics of this model anything from very good to crap and have heard that the 6-24 blows it away optically I will be using the scope in low light when hunting so optics are important also how does the 4-16 ffp stack up optically to them I don't have a chance to look at them in person I have to just order it so anyone that has seen them and can give me a little help would be great i am only looking at the vortex brand not any other brands

I love my 6-24 FFP Viper PST. No problem using it down to last light (legal shooting time). With the 6-24 though it is nice for longer range stuff. I'm Coyote hunting over Farm fields. I think that in brush or for something fast moving another power would be an option. I also have a Bushnell 6500 2.5-16x50 scope. That is a real nice hunting scope and being able to turn it all the way down to 2.5 is great for fast in close stuff. Also the bushnell rainguard coating is just awesome. I have hunted with this scope in terrible conditions and even though the glass looks all fogged up and soaking wet it was still is no problem to shoot through. I can dog for deer with this one, I wouldn't do that with the 6-24. The bushnell is Second focal plane so there is extra math for holding elevation or wind and any power other than 10x (the proper power for Mil dot subtention)

Now having the recticle match the turrets and Front focal plane is just awesome with the PST FFP for target work or and long distance (300 yards plus) hunting if dialing or holding elevation and wind. For the quicker shots inside 300 yards I think the Bushnell is superior.

For a Second focal plane scope Id go bushnell 6500. If you are doing math anyways converting subtension due to power level changes it nothing really extra if the turret doesn't match the reticle. You wouldn't be doing all that math anyway in a hunting situation. Now a long range hunting with Mil elevation holds and wind holds is really quick and easy with the FFP scope.

Hope it helps.
