Vortex Viper riflescope PST 6-24x50 SFP with EBR-1 MOA, or better?

Looking at the sightron s3

Should I get 6-24 or 8-32?
expected use mostly BR shooting 100-1000 yards

will the 56 fit with low rings on a rem 700 police with EGW 20MOA rail? or do I need med rings?

I used Nightforce Low rings on two separate Remington builds. Both wearing a Sightron Siii 8-32x56 and both with 20 MOA bases with no clearance issues. All brands may have a different idea of what low, medium and high is so as long as you are using a .885 height ring you should have these same clearances of course rail thickness can very by brand also.

REMINGTON 5R .308 WITH NF 20MOA RAIL AND SIII 8-32X56 IN .885 RINGS

REMINGTON 5R .300 WIN MAG WITH BADGER ORDINANCE 20 MOA RAIL AND SIII 8-32X56 IN .885 RINGS

I had a viper pst 6-24 and sold it as soon it got back from waranty
I now have a SightronIII and I will never have a vortex again
thoses PST are sold almost twice what they worth just to cover up for the fool proof waranty

.885?
that's more than 3/4 inch?
Burris lists low rings at 1/4 inch?
Am I missing something?

No your not and that was my point in posting. My example pictures only work for you if the ring you choose classifies low as .885 or taller. All brands versions of low, medium and high cam be different. I use NF rings.

Some mfrs measure from top of base to bottom of scope tube while others measure from top of base to center of scope tube. Also EGW rails are quite tall. I have a 20 MOA (its actually only 10 MOA and came without hardware) EGW base and NF ultralites in .885" and an NXS 8-32X56 with about 0.20" clearance between the objective bell and the barrel on my Howa (similar action)

I plan to buy burris XTR rings and an EGW 20 moa rail, and a 8-32x56 scope.
do I get low or med rings?

You need to read the information we are providing you. Supernova has mentioned that he has .20" clearance with his egw rail and the NF low rings that measure .885" I have given you photos of the same rings with two different rails showing the clearance. It would be wise for you to figure out which burris rings equal .885" and you will be fine.

Here's the math:
1/4" gap between top of rail and bottom of scope tube plus the radius of the scope tube (30mm÷25.4=1.18"÷2=0.59") 0.59" + .250"= .840".
Therefore Burris XTR 1/4" rings are .840" which is .045" lower than NF .885" rings. They may clear or they may be a tiny bit too low. Also look up the obj. bell O.D. of my NXS and compare it to the O.D. of the sightron. I suspect the NXS will use heavier wall tubing given their overbuilt nature but I dont have the numbers infront of me.

So low rings will probably fit a 50mm objective and I should go with med rings for 56 I guess.

Is a 1 piece rail better? I guess it will make loading my rem700p a bit harder than a 2 piece rail?
