i have narrowed down my choices for my scope on my new 30 378 weatherby and they are the vortex viper HS 4 x16x 50 or the bushnel 6500 4.5 x30 x50 what scope do you think would be the better of the two i know warranty wise the vortex. do you think the vortex will hold up to the recoil on the 30 378. the two scopes that i am thinking about are priced the same so that is not an issue. i don't plan on doing any super long range shooting . max probably out to 500yds

My bushnell 6500 crosshairs wandered as you cranked up the power. So unless I shot it at the same power all the time it would shoot to a different point of aim. I would not recommend getting one.

get it repaired, this is not how it should be

I bought it brand new. I confirmed my thoughts about this by putting a bore slighter on and running the power up and down. It was an interesting feature that I didn't remember ever having before on other scopes. I didn't find that it was all that clear at distance anyway and decided to go about returning it. When I went to the store I found out that this wasn't the only one they had seen like this. I'm not bashing bushnell as I have had good luck with some other products, but that was enough of the 6500 for me.

Bad runs happen. Even if you're not buying Bushnell again, contact them and ask them to repair the issue. You have a defective scope, and manufacturers defects are covered by Bushnell's warranty.

Warranty will be the most important feature in either of those scope lines on a 30/378. I assume you are looking at shooting some longer ranges with the gun, you really should step up to a scope that has optical clarity and a track record for distance.
