Vortex, Hawke and Athlon all have similar warranties but is there one brand that stands out over the others in their $500 and under rifle scopes?

Never had a hawke. Have had bunch vortex and still have a couple of Athlon. Go with the Athlon. 3 of the vortex ones had to get shipped out for warranty. Vortex seems to be good at marketing thats about it. Their scopes don't hold up so you need the warranty. Haven't had any problems with the Athlon scopes they are great glass for the price and they track better than the vortex. There are lots of scopes out their for that price point so look through them and do your research lots of options.

Thanks for the info on the Athlon and Vortex.

Under $500 is your budget? I would buy Leupold. Not much for scopes under $500 that a trust on a centerfire rifle.

Thanks for the suggestion of the Leupold, I will have to check them out and see what they have.

I have to agree with that statement, I have some upper end vortex and Athlon and lean a little more towards Athlon if you were looking to spend even closer to $1000. But the glass and durability with a $500ish Leupold will be closer to the $1000'price point of other optics.

I have had many vortex scopes.. all PST line or above.
Only one that ever went for warranty was accidentally dropped and damaged.... my fault completely.

I can't comment on under $500 scopes.... never bought one.

Athlon voids warranty if you have painted the scope, just saying:

"Please note that any altering of the products, such as Duracoat, hyrdo dipping or spray painting, will void the warranty. Cosmetic alteration of Athlon Optics must be completed by a certified Cerakote applicator "
