OK purchased this pistol the other day to help out a friend, Then I go looking on line to read about this version, and find , it maybe rare, and the selling price was 5 times that of a 22 lr version. I have posted some information from another sight. Any thoughts as to value? is it truly rare being a 22 short? HELP ME PLEASE.

"Here's a very nice example of an interesting pistol, not too commonly encountered. This is a variation of the Russian "Vostok" Margolin target pistol referred to as the "M.U.-1". The Margolin pistols were introduced in the late 1940's, not long after WWII. They came from the fertile mind of Mikhail Margolin, an impressive feat particularly when you consider that Margolin with completely blind! The M.U.-1 was designed for rapid fire competition and is chambered for the .22 Short cartridge. It features a special lightweight alloy slide in order to reliably function with the lower powered cartridge and has no external safety. It has a 6.5" barrel which is threaded at the muzzle to accept the compensator. The sights consist of a bridge rear sight with windage adjustable blade and a front "drum" sight which is adjustable for elevation. It features an exposed hammer, trigger over-travel adjustment, and the rear tang overhangs the shooting hand providing excellent support. The target grips have a right hand thumb-rest and there is an adjustable stop at the bottom of the butt that is easily detachable. Takedown is unique, but very simple."

The 22short Margolins were common starter pistols for Rapidfire competitors in 70s. Thought of as "okay" but not up to the fit finish and performance level of HighStandards, Walther OSP, etc of the times. Consistent problem was the soft steel of the mags, lips would spread and it was not uncommon to use the range dividers to push the lips tighter in order to feed well enough to get through a 60 shot match, sometimes had to do it twice. I build two highly modified competition versions, one with the Zapedski-Farell mods of moving the hammer and sear forward, cutting off the tail, shortening the slide, etc to get a more ergonomic form, mags were still a #####! Now the Margolin is an antique since short ammo and the whole specialized RF gun set has been ruled out of existence.

A few months ago Tradex had a few of these that they imported in 22 short and 22 long rifle.
The price was very good, thou I would have to check,
These are very good pistols for the price, as informal shooter, The Russians used them
for years and did a good job, mind you they are not $1000-2000 free pistols.
I always liked them, thou as stated above , the mags are crappy.
They are not a good pistol in a holster.
