For you guys using Vortex Crossfire II red dot sights, how are they holding up? Any reason to go with a different one like Sig's Romeo5 or Holoson 403 types?

Have a Vortex Crossfire that was used on a 12 gauge pump and a single shot 45-70... although it is currently idle, it still functions fine.
Also have a Sig Romeo 5 currently sitting on a 12 gauge semi... still functions fine.
Personally, i prefer the simplicity of the rotary control on the Vortex, versus the button style on the Sig.
My rationale for that is a bit less cheap electronics to fail !!

I've got 2 of the crossfire reddots and they are both fantastic. On different guns over the years and no issues.

I also have 2 aimpoint comp m4's and a comp m5 and still enjoy running the crossfires.... While I believe that the aimpoints are much more rugged / reliable. I have never had the vortex fail and the guys at FOC in Ajax even did a torture test on one.

The vortex sparc on the other hand is complete rubbish was sold off long ago to buy the second crossfire as the buttons were too hard to push compared to the dial especially in cold weather.

The high / low mount configurations for the crossfire is another plus.

Overall great reddot for the money and you won't be dissapointed.

As a counter-point, I've got a Holosun 503 - pretty basic - and several diff $50 amazon RDs, reflex and optic. The cheap ones have been holding up fine to SKS-recoil mounted on the barrel, rear-ramp and dust cover mount, as well as an MRA Renegade. I prefer saving $$ to 'Name Brands' - electronics either work or they don't.

I saw that torture test!

While its really impressive that the dot still functioned (honestly surprised me) I was wondering if the adjustments still worked and tracked

The Holosun 403R I looked through (as was mentioned earlier, wheel vs buttons works for me too) had a lot of red reflection from the dot, I found. Might be a one off or I have screwed up eyes or am too nitpicky. Maybe it was lots better outside I dunno

I don't have much experience with decent red dots, but I'm very happy with my crossfire red dot. It's certainly miles ahead of the Crosspoint and NCStar ones i have.

Next RDS I have my eye on is the Osight line. Have you seen those yet?

hearing that they are reliable is good, they're a bit cheaper

I've owned a Vortex Crossfire, Strikefire and a Sparc. I no longer own any of them.. For a basic RDS, Primary Arm SLX MD-25, Sig Romeo 5 and then Holosun 503 in that order. If absolute co-witness is ok, then the Sig MSR is also worth a look.

Did the others have some problems or was it mostly stuff like battery life/shake-awake features etc that swayed you?

The Glx and Slx Md-21s look awesome

I've used one on my .45-70 Marlin, Rem 870 12g and my Kriss Vector. Held up great, even under 500gr monsters out of the Marlin repeatedly. Never lost zero, never had a single issue.

I do run an Aimpoint on my 870 now though.

Vortex Warranty - So many positive reviews to me means So many F-uped scopes.
As for 'fuzzy' or reflected dots, that often is a symptom of Astigmatism. It may not be noticeable in most situations but I've read of Many people finding out about their problem this way, if they get their eyes Tested for this.

5K+ rounds on a standard Ruger 10/22 compact.
Admittedly light duty but Zero issues so far.

Can't speak to consistent tracking but no need to re-zero yet.
Yeah I’ve got about the same on one of mine and it’s been fine.
OP, I’ve actually got all 3 you mentioned and like them all for various reasons. My Holosun 403 has been in service for at least 7 or 8 years on various platforms and is probably the best value I’ve ever had in an optic. What a great age we live in lol, so many excellent choices available 😊
