Seems VV N140 is pretty easy to find these days. Would it be worth picking up a few KG? I mainly load 303Brit, 6.5CM, 7.5x55 Swiss and some .308. there seems to be load data for all those rounds so could make a great do all powder. Also, Hows the stuff for temp stability? Metering?

Thanks

VihtaVuori N140 is suitable for reloading in .308 Winchester, 7.5X55 Swiss, .303 British. N140 can be used in 6.5 Creedmoor but slower powders produce higher velocities, especially with 140 + grain plus bullet. I should mention that N140's burning rate is not too fast in .308 Winchester when using up to 175/185 grain bullets. Comp shooters with 200 grain plus bullets use N150.

Contrary to hype, all powders are affected by temperature, but some more than others and N140 is used in extreme temperatures from very cold to very hot with reliable functioning and low SD.

Peter

I like viht N140 for 223 & 308. For 308 I use it with 130 & 168 gr barnes TTSX, single digit SD with decent velocity. Pretty sure I used it with 175gr berger VLDs in a gun I sold a few years back but I can't find any of my old reloading notes for it.

N140 for my 155 /308, N150 for 175 and up, also use N140 for
123gr for 6.5x47, and 6Br/105 scennar

OP, VVN140 is a very decent powder. However, I don't believe in the theory "one all around powder"

VVN140 is, or at least was, a very expensive powder when comparing prices to others in the same range of burn rates.

I like it a lot, in some of the cartridges you mention, but as mentioned in the above posts, "others are better" depending on your needs.

If you feel this powder will cover all of those needs for the foreseeable future, then go with your gut feeling and purchase a Keg.

Be careful with it though, once it reaches maximum pressure ranges, it spikes higher very quickly.

Maybe ill grab some N150 as well. I'm not opposed to multiple powders. Im just tired of building up a load and then the powder going AWOL when I need more. So want to buy a couple of KG to last me for a few years. At 149 per KG VV powders are one of the better deals for powder these days.

I'm starting to find VV powders more available also, and will start stacking some away. I'm using various N's for my various cartridges, price and availability are pushing me to use it more. So far N140, N150, N530, & N565 are in my storage I need to add a few others but like I said it'll be replacing some IMR & H powders.

Vv n140 149 per kilo that's about 70 per pound it was never more expensive as long as I have been buying it
Yeah, it's about the same price as most other powders these days, when purchased in bulk, rather than 1lb boxes, but I guess I'm still stuck back when prices on other powder were $45/pound before going to bulk. My bad.

VVN140 - 3.5 kg retail $449 = $58.21/lb. 1kg $149 = $67.60/lb.

It does not create pressure spikes any differently than other powders when near maximum loads.

Peter

Single kilos are semi bulk for most folks, who are used to buying one pound.

Larger packages cut costs a lot. Less handling, one container is cheaper than two+ VV powders were traditionally 35% more expensive back in the day. A lot of things have changed over the past five years. Factories have shut down or relocated all over the world.

Rebranding still happens but with contracts, instead of just shipping out of the country and putting on a different label.

Tax quadrants, shipping costs, etc have brought NA produced powders onto a level playing field for European or Australian produced powders.

I'm not knocking your choice of powders. They're excellent.

Out of the calibres you listed I only load 308 right now and as for vv powders I like
N140
N150
N540

Yep, not bad at all.

By contrast I was in my local Canadian Tire today and took a walk around the gun section. Powder was eye wateringly expensive - I saw Varget for $110 / pound. I almost fell over.

Sure makes the sizeable N140 order I picked up from you folks a couple of month ago seem like a bargain.
