So what are the tools called [and where can they be found] to remove the various nuts & bolts on a vz-24? There are several bit on there that have just 2 holes instead of a slot for a screwdriver....

-thanks

This is the method:

That's a good method if you want to mar the daylights out of the holes and possibly slip and gouge the stock.

There are proper bits available from Brownells to fit the spanner nuts. That would be my first choice. A good set of snap ring pliers with the proper dia tips would be a far second.

Tool a look, could not find them - what are they called?

Sorry, I don't see them on there either. It's been a while since I looked. All they have is Smith and Wesson spanner bits.

They are spanner nuts and you should be able to get bits for them from somewhere. Ebay maybe? I know Wheeler Engineering still makes one for the stock recoil lug nut.

I've seen so many of these damaged and beat up with gouges in the stock from improper removal so I would put a bit of effort into finding the correct tool before going the snap ring pliers method, although it will work if you're careful.

You can MAKE a tool for this job. It's a bit of a bother, but anything is better than messing up those bolts.

You can start with a BIG screwdriver with a scrood tip, hacksaw the tip entirely off and square the shank with a grinder or bandsaw or something.

Then you use the drillpress and drill 2 small holes into the shank, straight down, insert rounded tool-steel or music-wire tips (it is extremely hard and stiff) NO more than a quarter-inch long, silver-solder into place and let cool. SHORTER the protruding tips are, the better.

Hope this helps.

Funny, I was just on my way out to princess auto to grab a couple cheapie screwdrivers and grind the appropriate profile into the tips... :)

after a little digging - found out these are "spanner bits' ~ found in many 'security bit' sets.... ebay, amazon, sears, home depot all have them .... :)

I've always heard them referred to as pin wrenches. ;) easy enough to make from a flat bladed screw driver.
