VZ 52/57 has unique round gas system and mini-version of garant's trigger.

How come some of VZ52/57 have rail and other don't? Was there some "sniper" version of this rifle? Is rail milled or just merely welded to standard receiver?

It would appear that the mounts were developed later and rifles modified as needed. More of a "marksman's" rifle than a sniper rifle as such. Rail is welded to the receiver and overhangs the stock.

Would it be possible for you to post some close-up pictures of rail showing how it is installed/welded on receiver? Did they modify stock at all to accommodate rail?

Yes; its barrel co-axial adjustable gas piston doesn't induce any torque harmonics.
Also, its horseshoe-shaped extractor design is rather unique and the choice of a Garand-style hammer/trigger block is another interesting touch.
There's even a way of adjusting the stock bedding tension to compensate for wood shrinking or a new stock!

The gas system is unique - and it was only used on one other rifle design...for a good reason, as it's a real bugger to clean the inside face of the annular piston. I bought one that was siezed solid - corrosive ammo is really unfriendly to a non-chrome surface.

Sometimes, when you get lucky, you can still find VZ-52/57 cleaning kits with the original piston scraper tool. They are getting quite scarce though...
I'd like to find one here in Canada.

I have to look - I know I had a cleaning kit for the Vz.52...or did it end up in your paws? ;)
