VZ 58 Scout mount question

Can the scout mount be installed in either direction? I want to mount it so that the longer part points backward, so that I can mount a scope closer to the eye.

And while we're on the subject who makes a middle of the road (price wise) long eye relief scope (at least 4 power) that would work on the scout mount?

Do you mean the "Scout Scopes" brand one that replaces the rear sight?

i mounted the one i used to have backwards just out of curiosity and if i remember correctly it sticks out an inch over the action, possibly causing shells to hit it and either vibrate the scope or jam in the action, but then maybe it won't

the rail gets wacked by the ejecting casings .
