I know it imight be complicated to buy in Canada, I just thought it to be interesting...

I had a chance to test a prototype of Vz. 58 called Defender. The barrel ends right behind the gas channel and the rifle is fitted with compensator, VFG and a new folder. It is surprising how easily I was hitting targets on full auto at 100m. The rifle is easy to control even in long bursts.
It is manufactured by HERMEX (like the CZH 2000 etc.). It is currently being offered to Czech armed forces and LE.

I, infortunatelly, don't have any pictures to post :(

as long as it was NEVER assembled as a fullauto rifle and the factory would confirm that it should be allowed to import it here

but then again you never know with rcmp

Hermex just needs to make a CZH with the same barrel setup and it will be fully legal. I am very interested personaly just so I can have a Krinkov replacement.

What they really need to do is make more calibers aswell.

You definetelly need to do something to the gas system. I asked the designer and he said they did not remove material from the BC, so I guess the gas port is the next possibility.

+1 Couldn't have said it better myself.

"prototype", by definition, is in conflict with "currently being offered", and it's not something specific to english language only.

Yep, so what is the problem. The weapon is being offered to the armed forces and I had a chance to handle the designers prototype. The guy, designer of this modification, brought his personal prototype to the range and let me shoot it.

There is no problem here.
Reading your original post, one can understand that the prototype is being offered to the armed forces, so thanks for clarification.

So, the armed forces say what about the gun? Any news on that? Our info may be a little obsolete, but the czech military doesn't even have a test program for that gun yet:eek:

From "being offered" to "being adopted" to "being issued" there are huge steps;)

Anyway, as you probably know, we have a nice marathon thread about 58's here:
http://www.canadiangunnutz.com/forum/showthread.php?t=94717, and if the things change, some members (including me) would like to see pics of that gun used by the military (when the gun is already in the hands of regular troops, there is no confidentiality any longer, right?). Thank you:)

Palinak, as you have been told before, there is no semi-auto version of the Hermex shorty being sold in numbers (info current as last week). If I didn't know you any better, I would think that you also believe in Santa Claus, too:D
Other myth you were so happy to believe: "VZ drum", even when I told you it looks like mod'ed AK:p
Don't even start me:D

hey man I sent my wish list to the north pole so I expect to have my twins under the tree.

The VZ drum is a modified AK drum ...modified in Slovakia.

The Armed forces just bought some jet fighters so they cannot expect much under the x-mass tree. But the Defender is an option especially for troops deploing to Iraq and Afghanistan (MPs). The particullar units should decide themselves. There are other bodies, especialy LE, like Prison Service and some others. It is a mess, Special Forces are getting Bushmaster M4s. I know the thread I always wonder where people get all the pictures. O remember when the thread had several pages, now like 130
The Semi-auto version of the Defender are not selling in big numbers, that is true.
