Wanting to get a black non res rifle, now when I added up the mods I would do to the vz it's up around 1700$ Rifle included! if I change the stock that's another 200$ Or so. I'm closing in on used xcr pricing! What would y'all choose?

I used to have 2 non-res 858s and a 12" CSA VZ. Now I have a 7.62x39 XCR and the CSA. I do not miss the 858s and the CSA rarely gets used.

Had a Vz-58, now I have the XCR, better ergos, better for mounting whatever sight set up you want, 10 round mags, rock solid support from wolverine. For the small difference in cash you will be much happier with the XCR.

I had a XCR then I bought a CSA VZ58 in 7.62x39. I really like the VZ for being light and reliable. But I miss the XCR for the ergos.

If I had to do it all over again XCR would be my first choice.

Just make a prioritized list of your top 10 requirements. Then pick which rifle meets each requirement more. Rank 1 requirement gets 10 points, rank 2 gets 9 points, rank 3 gets 8 points and so on. The rifle with the most points wins. In reality though, most people will just choose the item that "sings" to them more.

The XCR has the best ergonomics out of all the black rifles. The VZ58 has the best reputation amongst all military issued 7.62x39 rifles. As a fun plinker, I think the VZ58 wins. As a competition gun, I think the XCR wins.

Some example requirements: lightness, balance, ergonomics, accuracy, reliability, ease of maintenance, durability, resale value, compatability of parts with common standards, trigger feel.

To me, the XCR wins ergonomics, ease of maintenance, resale value, parts compatibility and trigger feel.
The VZ58 wins durability (anecdotal evidence, XCR is still pretty good too), reliability (anecdotal evidence, XCR is still pretty good also)
The rest is a tie IMO.
