Anybody own a vz-58, are they any good/worth the money compared with something like an m-305??? What's the price of surplus 7.62 x 39 as compared with surplus .308?? What are the pro's and con's of each??

Well I have a VZ58 and it's fun, plus it goes bang every time.
I got from Milarm for like $375, $437 all in all. Not bad :D
Mine came in typical surplus condition (some minor paint rubbed off, nothing serious) and the "wood" can use a coat of clear if you want a mirror finish.
The trigger is smooth, to me anyway, much better than an SKS.
Sights will need adjustment since they are sighted in for 800m :shock:
As for cost of ammunition, 7.62x39mm Czech surplus can be had for $169 per 1120 rounds, that includes shipping but add about $12 for taxes.
I suggest the modern military muzzle brake that Marstar sells for $40.
It minimizes turbulent gases for improved accuracy.
The grip IMHO is small, but you can adapt one made of wood for an AK.
That's about it for now, I intend on getting a folding stock soon and more mags.

I've just gotta point out that the M305 goes bang every time too. It is the most reliable rifle I have, never a misfeed or misfire. 8)

I had mine out today, dang (is that pc enough?) that thing is a blast! Until earlier this week it has sat in my safe for many months. I'd forgotten how fun it is too shoot, the recoil is about the same as my .223! :lol:
 
I shot a match with a borrowed VZ58 from Reaper, and I must tell you that it's worth every penny.

Once I figured out the cheek weld, so that I could align the sights properly, it was on. I also enyoyed shooting it.

If you want one, get one.

I have both the VZ-58 and the M-305. If you want higher quality out of the box per say, the VZ-58 beats the M305 hands down. But wherever the VZ58 lacks the M305 excels ie more accurate at longer ranges, not restricted etc and the M305 can be of better quality if parts are replaced. I'm with Adrent, get both like I did and do like Hungry says get 2 M305's too ;)
 
It's being worked on Chuck. There are mounts out there made by B&T but are too expensive to for the average shooter to buy so alternative methods are being sought after. Hope this helps.
