With an 858 and corrosive ammo, cleaning isn't really that hard - wash it down inside and out with very hot (close to boiling) water, to dissolve the corrosive salts. Then dry it and give it a spray down inside and out with G96 (smells like bubble gum). Done. As far as parts go Wolverine has a very complete parts kit for $100.
Speaking of washing it down, can the OEM wooden/plastic stock, etc. endure prolonged exposure to water without suffering any damage?
Thanks for the info about the Wolverine parts kit.

Now it's just a matter of waiting, waiting, waiting to receive my license so that I can then buy an 858. By any chance do stores sell to non-license holders and then store the firearm until the buyer gets his/her PAL? My application has reached the "in progress" stage and I've already given the CFC a call "to ask if there are any deficiencies", but none of my references have yet been given their interview call, so I really have no idea how long it will be before I have a PAL in hand.
After I buy one though, I'd like to go the same accessories route that the gentleman in the following video has gone on the topmost of his two 858s -- muzzle brake and all:

Looks like it's a real pleasure to shoot and, with that configuration, I don't have that urge to run away, as I do with the butt-ugly, "as it comes" setup.
