I was taking out the trigger group and selector switch last night and cross referencing it with the faq.

In the faq the reciever that is displayed has, what looks like, chunks of metal in the trigger group, blocking particular areas. Towards the magwell the area is free of any metal and left open. I also noticed that in the faq there is a trigger spring that is held in by the trigger pin that rests in this emtpy area of the reciever.

My reciever has a solid piece of metal welded in place forward of the trigger group, and there is no room at all for a trigger spring to rest, in fact mine does not have a spring that is pictured in the faq at all. It has a spring but it is inside the trigger/disconnector assembly.

Is the 15" version different than the 18.5" version in terms of the reciever?

Also, I want to take off the front sight and the gas block and have noticed that there are pins that hold it in place. What is the best way to get these out, just a hammer and a punch?
Putting them back in, do you have any tricks that I should know about? I was thinking vice grips with tape on the ends to just start the pin in and then hammer in the rest?

Thanks for your help.

the version in the FAQ is a cz858 , different manufacturer than the vz58 so slightly different trigger group .

why dont you post some pics of yours?

I would have, but I'm at work.

I'll post some pics tonight, I'm just curious as to why the one reciever needs the spring, and the other doesn't as the disconnector/trigger group looks identical.

I am curious as well. As I'm from states I've never played with an 858 and can't understand the logic behind the obviously problematic(20 some threads on the gremlin which doesnt seem to appear in the vz58)redesign as opposed to the original semi auto design

I've been told that the gremlin appears in both designs equally, its just that more people buy the 858.
I'll have some pics tonight here of the reciever, the welds are totally different and the takedown of the trigger group has to be done in a different order, in which the selector MUST be removed before the trigger can come out.

*edit*

Alright here's a pic of what I'm talking about, there is no room at all for that little silver trigger spring (in the faq there is a picture of it in the trigger group disassembly section) to sit as there is a piece of metal in the way. As stated before, mine never had the spring, the one in the faq does, why?

Also, anyone know of an easy way to remove the front sight pins? I'm having a hell of a time with a punch and I'm thinking that they are really pressed in there.

thanks for posting the pic... yes, quite different in the two receivers. it seams that the chuck of metal in the vz is in the front and the cz is in the middle , why , i dont quite know , maybe its a way to block it from converting to full auto .

as for the trigger spring , looking at the cz trigger it looks like it belongs there , what it does is moves the lower part of the trigger a little bit forward so therefor the sear disconnect is abit lower.

i have remove the trigger spring to see whats the difference in the function and found without the spring , the carrier tends to get hung up on the sear disconnect as i slowly release the carrier forward , that would increase the chances of the dreaded gremlin .

I believe the gremlin is a result of a VZ without an auto sear as a backup to hold the bolt. If we were allowed to auto sears in vz/cz rifles, I bet we'd never hear tell of the gremlin again...........the liberals have created yet another "monster".
