Hi everyone,

just wondering if you guys agree/ disagree with me?

Some say VZ 61 is a pistol. I have Vz 61 in .32 and . 380. Both of the registrations say "Commercial Version."
Because of that, I do not think it is considered a pistol. (Wont be included in the freeze)
Not only that, the magazine is pinned to 5 per rifle.

Thoughts?

The FRT classifies the CSA vz61 as either restricted firearm 84 (b) or (c).

(b) semi auto centerfires barrel <470mm (.32, .380)

(c) firearm that can fire when collapsed to less than 660mm (22lr)

Which is why the vz61 22lr has a 20 round magazine

Put simply, because of the wire stock it is NOT a handgun. If it were a handgun it never would have been allowed into the country - 32 ACP handguns are PROHIBITED!

thanks for the explanation. I completely agree. Just want to make sure I am not crazy believing they arent "handguns." I guess they are safe for now....until the next liberal shenanigan.

.380 Canada legal models exist. The fact you can rebarrel and change classification to NR proves they are not considered handguns in Canada.

Both the 380’s and the 22’s came in later I believe. When these first hit the market in 32ACP they were called carbines because of the wire stock. There was a lot of discussion at the time because of the whole 32 thing. Actually kind of a mad scramble for ammo because most dealers didn’t even stock it - they couldn’t be bothered for the few guys with prohibs.

Actually B. I didn’t know anybody had changed barrel length and had them reclassified - that’s cool though.

It's originally a machine pistol that's classified as a rifle by our knowledgeable betters because it has a stock.. that can be removed... and other pistols can take stocks but aren't classified as rifles... huh. It's almost like the whole thing is bogus.
