We used to be able to get them in Canada?
On youtube people claim it's a good rifle that you can get for 400$.. What the hell?

All I see is VZ58 with synthetic stock for 1100$ everywhere.

There was a dealer supposed to be bringing them like a year ago in reaction to the CZ ban.

Never heard of it since.

just like the bolt action AK.

What the hell happened to these.

I don't believe the vz2008 ever got to Canada in large numbers.

Generally the CSA va58, the CZH line, the FSN and the 858s were the regular sellers.

The vz2008 was talked about, but never materialized.

Are we talking about Century Arms VZ58 rifles? I know they were in the planning process in late 2013, unsure if any Canadian length versions were made or even came to Canada. Just never heard about them again.

CSA is the only one on the NEW market now, unless you want a used FSN, CZ (non-ban year) or CZH.

Prototypes are made for the new CZ958 that are reportedly being inspected right now. Hopefully there will be another choice for new purchases of a Czech VZ58 patterned rifle and the new CZ offering with a receiver made to the letter of the law - will be approved. For more information, checkout Wolverine's section. Here's a picture of a CZ958 rifle, not yet approved for sale:

Newly milled / machined parts vs. a stockpile of surplus parts in a warehouse being assembled.

Yes whats your point ?

The U.S. receiver are newly made and whole rifles are selling for 399$-499$

We are getting gouged no doubt about that.

Why would you ask what my point is when I had already made my point?

If you need further explanation:

While the CAI vz2008 does have a newly machined receiver it still uses more surplus parts than the CSA vz58, which results in a lower cost compared to the CSA.
The price is in USD, which results in a lower cost when compared to the CSA (Would be 600 CAD).
The parts are imported in far greater quantity than could ever be realistically imported into Canada, which results in a lower cost than the CSA, you know, wholesale bulk pricing and all that.
The warranty on the vz2008 is worse and some are without a warranty, again, lower cost than the CSA.

The list goes on.

I'm not at all impressed with the 958. They laugh when people want chrome lined. You're paying for new milling of upper and lower, but ARs also milled for $200. Still makes it a $600 rifle.

400-500$ difference for these weak reasons ? Yeah right.

Non chrome-line could be reasonable to some extent.

But the fact that the rail covers are held in place with bolts in threaded holes is just plain bad.

How long will these threads hold when the rifle is cleaned every session (corrosive ammo) ? When the threads are gone the receiver is done too ?

Taking a good military design and adding a bunch of screws to make a bubba vz58 just does not make it for me.

I haven't been following the vz58 ban. Is it just the cz rifles that where effected, or the fsn too? I see marstar used to sell the fsn rifles, is there a reason they are no longer available?

Some 858, not all.

The vz58, czh, fsn and a few 858 types are all fine. Marstar sold out long ago. They say their isn't a supply to import.

I am agreeing with you 100% on this one. The 958 is a gun that was made just to make money and not to fill customers' expectations and demands. On top of that it is much too expensive. The 858 I had cost me $599 if I remember correctly.

The cz858, vz58 and cz958 are the same platform.

But when you compare guns made from surplus, mass production large scale military orders, vs guns made in limited supply, new for the civilian market, you are going to get a difference in pricing.

Economy of scale. Just the way it is. New receiver plus surplus parts kit (858 and U.S. Guns) vs new production receivers and new production parts kits (vz58 and cz958)... That is the comparison.

If you are ever curious, look at the production costs per any military gun, vs any civilian produced gun, and the cost per gun difference will astound you.

Factor in the increasing lack of market supply, with a stable or increasing demand, and prices will go up.
