vz58 factory stock to high

I find the factory fixed stock on my vz858 to be too high for a comfortable cheek weld. I have to squash my face and rotate my head to use irons at 1oo and 200. 300 doesn't seem too bad. I have used a factory folder and find it to be somewhat wiggly as well as short. Its not too bad for height with some pipe insulation on it. I have bought 2 different M4 stock adapters for the 858. One is an adjustable height inline one that had to be used on the lowest possible setting to get the cheek weld I'm used to. At this setting about 1/3 of the buffer tube is below the bottom of the receiver and it looks like crap that way. I was also not impressed by the small allen screws that mount had. The other mount I have tried is a D.A.C. factory angle one. This mount put the stock higher than the factory chipboard one, comfortable at 4-500 with the irons. Does anyone have any other options for stocks or stock adapters? Side folding is a "nice to have" but I can live without it. I wouldn't mind using the M4 stock as IMO they look good on the rifles but I would need it to mount at the factory angle and possibly so that the buffer tube lined up with the bottom of the receiver. I have seen some FAL/Galail style side folders but they all seem to be inline mounted and I'm sure that they would be too high like that. Any help would be appreciated.

Thx, Shane.

Tilt your head more and rest your cheek on it, not on top of it. That's what I do.

There are hight adjustable adapters available. vz58rife.com has collapsible stocks with that feature.

I bought one of these, which are now out of stock. (And honestly kind of overpriced.)

It works okay and it can go really really low for optics. It doesn't really look that great on the gun, but it's functional. Also you do have to modify it for the CSA because it presses against the rivets on the back of the dust cover and makes it impossible to remove. I had to drill two small dimples where the rivets are and I filed down the lugs slightly which probably wasn't necessary. You absolutely have to use locktite with it the way the screws work because it has a tiny screw with a jacket that goes into the receiver and it's guaranteed to come loose without loctite.

I think if you were to go with the lowest setting and have a stock with a multi height cheek rest it would be the best case scenario for adjustability.

I have big problems with cheek slap and cheek weld on the VZ myself. I'm trying to get the hardware together for a classic Czech wooden furniture set but it's hard to come by. I've never shouldered one with stock hardarware (beaver barf or wood) but I'm hopeful that maybe it will work better for me with the big dogleg the standard stocks have.

Plus I just think a red wooden furniture set would look totally awesome on a black receiver.

Yeah that's the adjustable inline that I have, I'm in the bottom holes to make it work for my face.

What stock position are you using with the angled adapter? The longer the LOP, the lower the cheek weld unless you're goose necking up the buffer tube. Also, you can turn your front sight up to zero at a closer distance with the rear sight elevated. Some guys do that with the NEA cowitness handguard to get their irons up higher in the sights FOV.

Given the problems you've mentioned, you definitely wouldn't like the Galil stocks - I have to mash my cheek down against those stocks to use the irons, though the cheekweld is perfect with them for various optics.

From the front of the sock I'm using the 4th position on a 6 position collapsible stock. Length of pull feels right on that position and pulling my neck back as far as I can I can make 200 usable but its very uncomfortable and doesn't feel natural. I'm a tall guy 6'3'' so I may have a longer neck than some people or maybe I have a bad habit. My cheek is still on the butt part of the sock and not on the buffer tube, so I don't think I can be crawling too much. I really don't want to have to screw up my post and use a strange zero on the tangent. Thanks for the info though.

May just be the shape of your face in that case. Personally I like the factory angle adapters for cheek weld with irons on the VZ, I get a good firm cheek weld that lines me up perfectly with the irons. But everyone has a different face and that definitely affects cheek weld/sight picture. Hopefully someone here has a good solution.
