I have been asked to make up a mag pouch for a VZ58 magazine. I don't own the rifle, but have a magazine to work with. I have done this for AR15 30 round mags, but the banana shape curves quite a bit more than the AR15 mag. My question is what position would you prefer the magazine to be in so that you can grab it from your belt, the way we do it in CQB, with the index finger on the projectile side of the mag. If the mag was inserted vertical (think perpendicular to the belt) you would need a double jointed wrist to be able to grab the mag. Would it be better to cant the mag to the left, enough so the bottom of the mag is in the same plane as the top of the belt?

Watch VZ or AK reload drill videos.

Most seem to keep the mags rounds up and grab them beer can style.

Your goal is to get the inside curve of the mag at the top into the magwell at about a 45 degree angle forward of seated and then hinge it back into place so really, you want them to sit up in a shallow pouch so you can get a good grip on the middle of the mag.

I'm guessing... From what I have watched and tried a few times on friends guns. It's not the same dynamic as indexing an AR mag.

Random netpic...

This one is upside down so... watch lots of vids I guess.

Full mags should look to the left with rounds down. Pic above is good for the lefty. On the belt, just follow the same logic - should look back if on left side.
