Has anyone tried one of these? I'm not sure how well a peep sight will work that far down the reciever.

My eyes are getting a bit old for the U notch rear sight. Peep sights are much better for me. And I'd prefer to stay away from optics for this gun.

I had a similar peep, i.e. far forward like that, on an SKS once. It is good for accuracy, but it is sloooooooow to use.
 
I run a rear peep sight and a Fiber optic front sight and since I put them on, I have noticed a slight improvement in my accuracy when you don't have much time to gain a perfect sight picture.
 
I second what Canadiansurvivor just said.
I also find target aquisition to be easier with the peep sight because of faster centering.
I have put these on me CZ858 and CSA 5.56 as well.
