I like ACE stocks. Yes I do know about the AKfx stock available and folding mechanism that will work on the VZ. What I don't like about it is the way it mounts. The receiver blocks available mounts to the gun fine like any stock for the VZ. Yet, where the AKfx stock folder mechanism mounts to this adapter piece both surfaces are flat and smooth. It seems like a better design would be a machined 'notch' or 'groove' for the receiver block where the block bolts to the folding mechanism. Just like it mounts to the receiver itself. Then if any impact occurs, not all the stress would be on the bolts that mount the folding mechanism to the receiver block. Anybody follow what I mean? It would be nice if somebody would make a receiver block that would accept this ARfx folding stock mechanism, that way you could run any AR stock you'd want, and a seemingly more solid design. This folding mechanism already has a machined male end where it would meet the receiver block as you can see in the picture. Any comments? http://riflestocks.com/store/product106.html

Well, a few things. They don't use bolts. They use socket head cap screws. But they are a beefy arrangement and, in my opinion, far more solid that the flimsy original folder.

Just what sort of impact are you talking about absorbing?

Are we talking about withstanding forces from the rifle falling to the ground? It will withstand that, no problems. Being used as a ram to smash in doors? I would suggest that is not the best use of any folding stock design.

Or is it a generic attempt to design a single mechanism to be able to withstand any conceivable significant force encountered in likely use? I think that is a pipe dream. I've seen several rifles (C1 and later C7) critically fail during parachute landings with equipment (both PELS and SARPELS) on much stronger components (specifically, the barrels up to and including the ridiculously beefy C2A1 LMG).

I understand what you are saying. But the Stormwerkz trunion and folding stock mechanisms are plenty strong for their intended use.

To me it sounds like a solution to a problem that just doesn't exist.

A few pics from an earlier thread.

IIRC, I used either 30 or 35 in-lbs torque on the SHCS fasteners. Can't remember source for spec. But I am pretty sure it came from Stormwerkz. Have not ever had to resort back to some bull#### loctite solution with this arrangement.

This is the 7.5" AKFX stock with a Stormwerkz folding stock adapter. You cant see it in this picture, but the mechanism actually has some comb height adjustability.

If you look at this photo however and muster some imagination, you will realize that the socket head cap screws that connect the stock to the trunnion can be screwed into one of three height settings. EACH of these height settings has some more adjustability to them.

Cowitness is lower 1/3. I have never had a problem accessing sites with a strong cheek weld. But YMMV.

A picture of the mechanism folded up as requested.

The original link was to a nonsponsor, so here is a pic. Thanks for the pics Sprint, it will help folks see the mounting I was talking about. Sprint, is your stock the ACE or a copy? I can't tell if it has a plastic top tube.

OH I want!
But they won't deal with us  Canucks. Anyone know a dealer in Canada that can get this item for us as Brownells dosn't know what I am talking about.

I run a stormwerkz now as well and it works great. But I do want one of those, it will remove one of the adapters you need for the stormwerkz.
