I am hoping someone like NEA or BC Tactical will be able to come up with a railed received platform similar to that which Krebs Customs offers for the AK. It would enable the user to have a #### pile of options as far as mounting scopes or RDS options and allow flexibility for varying eye relief requirements.

The Krebs AK rail runs from the rear of the receiver, over the dust cover and bolt and appears to taper in and is pinned where the front sight would be. Then a low-profile rear sight is incorporated into the rear of the rail that allows use of the factory front sight. Built in irons, no need to add flip up sights.

I tried to attach a link to Krebs receiver rail but it didn't work. It's under their product page in any event.

I realize the AK dust cover runs the entire length of the receiver, but I don't think a full length receiver rail will be an issue with the VZ58, especially if a relief taper were incorporated over the bolt to ensure no issues with ejection.

I've looked a lot at the NEA cantilever mount and gas block rail, but the mounts put everything up way too high for my liking, especially to use standard flip type back up sights. Its a great idea, but to me its half finished!

Looking for feedback and hoping there is a shared interest there to get such a project on the move.

The dust cover just isn't a stable enough platform for mounting optics, in my opinion. If you care about accuracy beyond a hundred yards, you don't really have any serious options via the dust cover.

That is the receiver I was referring to, thanks for posting.

I believe the Krebs style of mount is pinned to the back of the receiver and the front sight mount, not the dust cover itself, so in theory it should be stable enough.

Their is a thread alreDY dedicated to this topic.

Hopefully soon NEA will have one coming out (probably not for a while) BC tactical doesnt seem interested in making one.

Don't know why they would. As anyone who shoots this rifle will understand that the ejection is 1 to 2 o'clock and with this type of rail you would be asking for trouble unless you moddified your rifle to eject the round differently. Then that posses another question all together...
What manufactoring company would receomend to it's customers in order to use a part that they need to modify there rifle in piticular a certain spot in there reciever. Never mind the point of getting the customer to do it properly.
Also Dlask Arms Corp was the first company in 08 to create such a product and have it working properly. This is were I ubtained my infromation from & considering that Dlask knows all the in's and out's of this rifle platform I would find it truely hard to believe. Trust me when I tell you that I have begged & cried for them to make me one and the owner specificaly told me no. Although there is another company that is planing on making a mount that does not require to remove it for cleaning and would cover the rear section above the rear cover. ETA middle of next year.

Money?
Seriously, it's a decent size market (relative to Canada) and there isn't a great solution yet (including the NEA cantileaver mount in there, even though I have one). If they come up with a good solution to the problem, it'll sell like hotcakes. Well... relative to the Cdn market. It shouldn't be impossible to make a rail with a built in shell deflector.

Would you pay $300 plus for it?
Didn't think so.
& no it would not sell like hotcakes because like I posted before you would need a gunsmith to modify you recever internal to make it work properly and no gunsmith would want to take on that headache. Although a non-full rail would be possible, as long as the breach was kept clear.

At first, my thought was that I would not pay $300 for it... but after taxes/shipping for my NEA cantilever setup with the mount/adapter, is probably close to that. Granted, those probably don't sell like hotcakes.

How about "theyd sell like hotcakes if they came in under $200 and didnt require gunsmithing for shell ejection"?

Receiver rails

One of the biggest assets of this simple and reliable rifle is the GIANT breech area. When that thing ejects a casing it has a HUGE mouth to barf it out.
If you start slapping Freddy Whizz Bang #### right over the opening it's going to send shell casings right back into the wonderfully wide breech. Then some smart ass will come up with some new gizmo to fix that problem.
K.I.S.S.
Putting anything right over the breech is a silly idea.
These rifles are not AK-47s....They're better.
AKs should be trying to be VZs not the other way around.
R.S.
( The companies working on do dads for these rifles should be re-working the selector switches and the mag releases. And I do mean RE-WORKING them. Not putting the same ####ty selector on the other side and not just making the lame mag release bigger.)
