Gun nutz,

i am trying to replace the furniture on my vz58's upper handguard. i understand i have to bend them to twist out the furniture but i think they might break off. if they break can replacements be found or is there an easy method i am missing? no videos on youtube to guide me!

Keep in mind there are two models. One locked with a clip very easy to replace or the bend tap model harder to replace. The bend tap model either have to be bend which is hard to do or cut down but then nothing hold the upper piece

Aye, if you have the "tabs" on yours, you will have to bend them or cut them off.

They really don't serve all that much of a purpose.

When the upper handguard is on the rifle the wood won't rotate that far as it rests on top of the lower handuards anyway.

I had to cut mine to put my brothers custom AK furniture on her.

Just use a dremel tool, then pop out the center pin in the middle of the tube and rotate the metal tube 180 degrees inside the wood handguard and pull it away.

Oh I didn't know that. Mine are all the clip ones. Are the other ones on older models? My brand new vz58 with synthetic furniture has the clips

Good plan! Does it snap back together?
Yes. You put the clip in the new furniture and rotate it around until it snaps. Not sure about this other style these guys are talking about. I haven't seen that style so I cant help on those. Mine have tabs ON the clip that keep furniture from moving. It rotated around and pulled right out. You just have to push that detent in center. I can take pics later for you if you want

Hard to say which ones are the older models. All wood sets we were selling were 1960s vintage and they were clip models. One of my CZ 858 came with clip another came with bend ones. I find the bend ones more solid and durable. Clip type tends to move after use

No problem. I can do that in a half hour. I used older cz858 upper hand guard to put my wood on. I got thinking maybe my CSA was different so I just went and checked and it's the same. So I gave it a twist and it turned right around without pushing center in. It would only do it one way and not the other. You could just try giving it a turn. I'll get pics to you shortly

Just bend the tabs to the point of breaking them off. No need for them at all. Once broken off just slide the plastic stuff off and new one on.
Very easy, if ya need help just pm me
