Like the title says, I'm thinking about either of these rifles in non-restricted format chambered in 7.62x39. What is the better rifle? Do they both have chrome lined barrels? I'm looking for a plinker/coyote/trunk gun, something reliable and durable. Also I've had many SKS rifles and sold them all due to being very unaccurate (ironically one I fixed up for a coworker was a 2moa gun, he didn't want to sell), are these rifles the same accuracy wise?

I have a CZ that DOESN'T have the gremlin, and it's a good trunk gun. Mine has the 19" barrel and it's chrome lined.

Accuracy could be better, but I'm still getting 2 MOA off a bench with quality ammo. With surplus I can get between 3-5 MOA off a bench. (btw, that's with the iron sights)

I've had zero reliability issues with mine and it has over 700 rounds down the barrel. Others' mileage may vary.......

cz858 are not chrome lined , they never were , only the CSA vz58 are 1-2 year ago they were not chrome lined ,

lots of trouble with the CSA vz58 , wrong size of gas port for some , bolt carrier cracking , and other ,

CZ858 the infamous gremlins and nothing else made of surplus part when the CSA is all new

I've had a restricted VZ 58 for many years now. It is one of the first ones to be sold here. It's a beautiful, accurate rifle that has never given me a moments trouble. So when you say VZ 58s have given trouble, just remember they all haven't.

I Have thousands of rounds down the pipe of my CZ and its a great rifle. Only a couple issue's with mine due to the mileage I have put on it. Bolt lug broke and striker cracked. dropped in new parts and it still keeps going. I was hitting 300 yard gongs last weekend with it, iron sights at that.

Lies. Cz never came with a chrome lined barrel in non restricted.

Lies. Your clearly just a hater, the 2013 5.56 models were the only ones with gas port hole issues with are no longer a problem. There was never any problems with 7.62 vz58s. And as for the cz858 gremlin it's a easy fix not worth crying over.

Actually my 2013 CSA 7.62 is in right now for warranty work because of what i believe to be an over sized gas port.
Don't see a need for chrome lined but whatever. I still think the finish on the 858's is nicer. maybe more durable?

There were companies like rauch tactical that chrome lined the barrels for the 858 as a package deal when you bought the rifle. So it has been done, I owned one. I still think the CSA have a way nicer fit and finish on them then the CZ. The paint on the CZ is absolute garbage and what I've seen from a lot of guns is that the paint starts to bubble on em when the get to hot on the barrel. Ive had one VZ go in for a piston being two one hundredths of an inch out of spec but thats about it. They are a very well made firearm.

Chrome lining barrel is not something that can be done effectively apart from barrel manufacturing process. Did they scrub the barrel before applying a layer of chrome in order to keep original lands and grooves dimensions?
As for CZ vs CSA, it's all about original military components vs commercially made. No brainer to me. Yeah, paint will get off with overheating and time, it won't look nice but it will work and that is what important to me.

I'm in the same boat now and looking for one. CSA or CZ... Not too sure which way I will go.
When it comes to brand new Non-restricted it appears that CSA VZ58 are the only ones laying around.

Do you guys know what the warranty is with the CSA models? I am curious as to how many people have shot thousands of rounds through them and the associated reliability...

One big plus with the CSA is that they have the side holes drilled on the receiver from the factory for a rear mount...

I've got a 2014 CSA V.58 in 7.62x39, little better than 1000 rounds down the tube and no issues. One of my mag's is stiff and I get the occasional feed issue from it but the rifle itself runs awesome with surplus or Dominion Arms ammo.

What Rauch offered was nitro carburizing wich is a surface treatment providing corrosion and wear resistance. I had my cz858 processed and still very happy with it.

correct but i remember some people saying that some batch were not properly done , softening the steel of the receiver , causing lots of wear were the lug to lock the bolt goes , if i can remember one post here about a guys that as a not useable rifle because of the softer steel
