A point i would like to bring up is why are the standard length VZ58's restricted? Are they not over 26" and thus fall under the same rules as the Grizzly shotguns and Dlask barrels because that is the way they come from the factory? And why couldn't one purchase a barrel (factory made) that is standard length, and get it installed on their CZ-858, to do the same thing as the dlask 870 barrel? Any thoughts?

Centerfire rifles fall under barrel length restrictions 18.5" or 480ish mm. That is the criteria. Anything less is restricted and anything less than 105mm (I think) is prohib. Shotties and rimfire fall under different laws. Stupid but true.

From what I understand, shotguns are a separate matter altogether. As many on here have said, do not try and figure out why the laws are the way they are. I think the VZ are purposely marked 58L and 58S because the 58S is only 390mm, which is 15.34 inches. The CZ858 has a 482.6mm or 19 inch barrel. I believe the VZ-58L is identical, except for the chromed bore.

Bill C51 way back in 1978 arbitrarily set the restriction on sub 18.5 inch centrefire semis because the M1 Carbine had a barrel 18 inches long and that firearm gave Liberals loose bowels. Ron Basford was Trudeau's Justice Minister at the time. He's dead now but the bull#### lives on.

I can recall the Ruger .44 semi carbine being in question at the time as it was 18.5 bbl exactly.

Semi auto shotguns are under the same restrictions re. bbl length as other centrefire semi auto semis.

Bbl prohibs refer to handguns which are of 104 mm or less, pistols of calibre .25 or .32 and any other bbls of any firearm cut to less than 18 inches.
