VZ58S Barrel Shortening: Legal???

I too have had that idea. Heres my concept painted black with AK furniture.

Cutting barrel is no problem as long as the overall length doesn't fall into prohib. You will have to notify the CFC as it exists now if you cut it down and make it restricted though. You can DIY but I woulde suggest a gunsmith do it for you unless you've go the proper tools and know-how.

I don't think it's kosher to cut from non-restricted barrel length (i.e 18.5" more or less) to "restricted" length. I think that turns it into a prohib...not 100% sure, though. But the VZ-58s is already restricted, right? (you'd think that with all the CZ-858 vs. VZ58s threads over the last year I'd know by now!:p ) If it is already restricted I don't think you can make it a prohib unless you cut the barrel down to below 12.6 limits (4" or so...not much worry of that (although I did have a CFC phone clone insist that my Ishy FN was not prohibited since the barrel length was longer than 4"!))--I'm quite sure that the overall length doesn't come into it.

That said, although I like the looks of short-barrelled rifles I'd be worried that any barrel shortening could mess up the cycling of a gas-operated semi. I'd be very tempted to leave it as is.

If it is restricted already the 106mm barrel law does not apply. There is a guy on this website with a straight pull Ar15 that has a sub 4" barrel and is 100% legal.

106mm only applies to handguns. i was thinking of making a VZ/Krinkov.

I did not know that...a sub-four inch centrefire rifle barrel would be brutal, though.

Altering will make a prohib:

defender

on VZ 58 ... before some weeks I put the picture of CZH2003 S - defender with short barrel. I have heard that they had to change something in gas piston or so to preserve auto or semiauto function.

...CFC. They are less likely to aprove the preservation of the non-restricted status of a semi-auto with the barrel lenght under 18.5" than, let's say, a pump with the barrel lenght under 18".

Uhm, they'll never 'aprove the preservation of the non-restricted status' of any non-restricted semi-auto centre-fire that has a barrel less then 18.5 inches. It's not a question of less or more likely, it's a question of "barrel<18.5"+semi+centrefire=restricted" or "barrel<18.5"+non-semi+OAL>26"=non-restricted".

There's no 'less likely' about it.

interesting importing a krinkov model wound be awesome or even having a gun smth put one togather
