I looked a a very clean W.W. Greener Empire Model 12 gauge SXS today. Boxlock ,crossbolt action. Had 30" barrels, Both chokes read .720 with serial number range of 78###. Gun was overall close to new condition. Is anyone familiar with Greener production dates based on this serial number range?. I'm wondering if this gun started life in England or Belgium as it's very similar to an old Belgian/Eaton's I own. Fellow is looking for $1,500.00.
Cheers

Proof marks will tell the tail of course, the pinapple with the "LG" would be Belgium.
I was always under the impression that W.W,Greener was always made in England, but then I am not a true greener looney!:D

Some closeup images will definitely help. Very attractive deal I must say given the condition stated. The Empire model was very well built though despite it's lower price tag during that period. Wasn't aware that the Belgians also produced the exact same model with W.W.? Greener stamped

Works very well as a Waterfowl gun though :)

Congrats on the find!

I know the Belgians made a "fake" Westly Richards that is stamped W. Richards...could this be a similar situation? If not...that sounds like one heck of a deal!!

Greener

I was just curious as it didnt have quite the finess of other British double's I've handled. Similar to pics of Greener's made in 1950-60's era. Hard to get true comparable's on the 'net and price vary a great deal. Wondering if it's a good investment. That if used occassionally and gently, will hold or increase in value. Have been a "gunnut" approaching 50 years, but not really "up" on English scatter guns.
Thanks for all replies.
Geoff
