The .308 and 748 were made for each other. That's a fact according to Winchester, not personal opinion. 748 works the best with the lighter bullets, under 180 grains. Individual rifles still have preferences and shooters are individuals too, but it is hard to suggest a more suitable match than the one you have in mind. With my .308's and 165's I use 748, but have also used with good success Varget, RL15, IMR4064, and IMR 3031. I have mostly used Winchester primers in 748 loads, because they were formulated for good ignition of relatively hard to start ball powders.
