Waiting for PAL - how long does it take?

Are there many members out there who have just recently received their PAL in the mail? I have not yet received mine and it has been about 6 weeks. Is this a normal time frame? I am just wondering if I should be concerned or just be more patient?

My wife just got hers, she waited almost 6 months. I waited 45 days last year. It’s a coin toss bud.

6 weeks from when? Has your application been approved and just waiting for the card to arrive? That would seem to be long and there may be an issue. If it’s 6 weeks from when you mailed it in, don’t hold your breath. Check out the PAL wait time thread

Perhaps try logging into your RCMP IWS portal to check the status. That will at least tell you if it has been processed.

My original PAL in 2006 I got from mailing out to receiving the card in about 2.5 months. That was in 2006.

My last PAL renewal in 2018 or so took 10 months...and that was a renewal (there were extenuating circumstances with them contacting my ex).

Given how innundated the CFC is with transfers nowadays and very likely new many new applications, my expectation would be at least six months...

I just finished my restricted course two days ago. After getting my papers back from FSESO in 4-6 weeks from now, I will mail my application out for my restricted endorsement (prob in early October). I am honestly not expecting to get my new card until next summer at the earliest, if at all (who knows what the government is up to). There's another fella that did the same as me (got PAL long time ago, just recently completed restricted) - he sent his application out in the winter and he still has not received his upgraded PAL yet. I would temper expectations for a much longer wait than 6 weeks.

Last year my mailed in PAL took 5 weeks from the day I mailed it to the day I received it

My original PAL took about 4 months from sending off the paperwork to receiving the card. My last renewal took 5 months.

I would probably go the patience route rather than panic. Could be 5 months for you. Hopefully sooner.

I did check that. It said it could not find anything based on the info I put in. I am assuming that means it has not even been looked at yet.

If it hasn’t been received then you won’t be in the system yet.

I have been waiting since April for my renewal. No emails, no calls, no letters. Can't get through to CFO, but Miramichi person told me it is held up there. Hard to hunt without a PAL. Should have sent it in last year I guess! This is my 4th renewal I think? Never had it be longer than 2 months until this one.

Thanks everyone for your input. I guess I waited too long to get my PAL going. I will try to be patient and hope it shows up before they eliminate the ability to even buy a handgun ��

My friend just received his yesterday. He completed the 2 day course in mid March.
