Waiting for the NP29... any parts to replace right off the bat?

While waiting <<patiently>> for the NP29... I stocked up on various brands of ammo, bought a little holster.... and while my wallet is not crying of being too stuffed, I'd like to know if there are some parts that are usually changed right off the bat when one gets the NP29.

I understand that some parts are prone to failure, or not good enough for a confortable use, while others are "known" to break after 9235 rounds of P+ ammo.

Any advice? ... Shopping for them will likely make the time pass faster...

Sights, sights, sights...

I immediately replaced the front sight (it takes a narrow tenon) and the rear with a Novak I bought off 1911forum.com for $10.

Voila, a world of difference! I also replace the crappy Norinco extended side release with a Wilson Combat part.

I'm a flat mainspring housing kinda guy (for my medium sized hands). I have an extended safety and an extended slide stop for shzts and giggles.

I'm going to bead blast and parkerize my NP29 soon. Yes, sights, I like using Novak knockoffs that my brother tends to ship to me. I keep a spare full length guide rod handy for allegedly, more accuracy, yada yada yada, but I'll keep the original plug and recoil guide.

I have never felt the need to really change anything because the NP29 is pretty well tricked out right outta the box. The mag well is already bevelled, the grip safety is beavertailed, the hammer is an open hole'd commander style. Okay, okay, the grips are rather cheesy, but for the price, who gives a shzt ?

So the need to swap out parts could be a percieved need. All depends how you look at it. For the most part, I'm swapping out parts that COULD make it more fun for my hand and my needs. That's the beauty of this hobby or NP29 addiction.

Norinco magazines work for me, but I put them aside and keep them nice and original. Then I break out my supply of MecGars and Pachmayrs with their rubber bumper pads. Get lots and lots of magazines. I bought a bunch of MecGars from www.p-d-ent.com, a sponsoring dealer on this CGN board.

Enjoy the NP29, they are the BEST Norinco-Plinko right after the M14, IMHO.

My 2 cents,

Barney
