Hi,

My friend suggested I borrow his Sig while I wait out my LTATT (waiting till I get it before I purchase).

Can I get a STATT for someone else's firearm?

If you don't own any restricteds now (you said you are waiting for the ltatt before you purchase) I think you'll find they won't issue an att UNTIL you own one. That was the case with me. They said you don't own restr so no reason to issue an att.

I'm not sure about the StAtt on someone elses gun. I'd have to look it up and there's others that will answer off the top of their heads to save me from all that reading :)

I spoke with CFO this morning and asked about LTATT, she said I cannot have one until I own a restricted firearm. So I asked her about borrowing a firearm, and she said no you cant. Then she went on the RCMP website and quoted this; Q. Can I borrow a firearm that is registered to someone else?

Yes, if you have a firearms licence that is valid for that class of firearm. When you borrow the firearm, the lender must also lend you the registration certificate so you can provide proof that the firearm is registered.

If you are borrowing a restricted or prohibited firearm, and you intend to transport it to another location, you are required to have an Authorization to Transport (ATT) from the Chief Firearms Officer of the province where the firearm is located, for the firearm being borrowed. An ATT is not required if you are transporting non-restricted firearms.

In order to obtain an Authorization to Transport a restricted or prohibited firearm, you can apply by calling 1-800-731-4000 or by submitting form CAFC 679 to the Chief Firearms Officer.

If you do not have a valid firearms licence, or if your licence is not valid for the class of firearm you wish to borrow, you may borrow the firearm only if you are under the direct and immediate supervision of an appropriately licensed adult (aged 18 or older) and there are no court orders prohibiting you from possessing firearms or other weapons.

Wouldn't a LTATT cover this, borrowed from the gun range, to home, and back to range?

Depends on the wording of the LTATT. Mine states it's good for any restricteds registered to my address. So it covers my wife's but if I wanted to borrow one from someone who didn't live at my address I'd need a separate STATT.

But as far as the op is concered I don't really know the answer if they'd give one out.
