Just wondering, what's the "typical" waiting time to get your gun back from a smith doing a reasonably easy fix w/o the need for new parts?

Depends on how busy he is and what you're having done. A smithy with a good reputation will be busy. Turn around time can be several weeks to several months and it gets longer if the smithy doesn't have the phone shut off or somebody to answer it. You should have been given a time estimate before you shipped your firearm.

There is no typical wait time and it depends on the job being done.

When I get a time estimate from a gunsmith, I usually double it and add 6 weeks. It's usually closer to the mark than not.

The prospect of a lengthy gunsmith wait provides an excellent justification for a back-up gun.

I seldom wait more than a day to get my guns back. That's so rare as to be almost freakish but I bring everything he needs for the job, pay cash, and remember to bring some work in during the off season. When I'm in a panic he remembers me. Being a "regular" has it's perks.

Big x 2 for cash ... and not asking for a receipt.
Small business operators very much appreciate the
cash approach.

"Regulars" do get preferential treatment ... I manage to get a lot of minor
work done the same day or same week at most... and, if I'm asked for
$ 33.95 , I'll hand over $ 40 or $ 50 and say ... That's fine - no change required or wanted ! Much appreciated !

Been known to occassionally bring in a cooler bag of
icy-beer on a hot quiet summer day too !

Good gunsmith's are friends ... I treat them as such.
