Walker death triggers!!

The safety is not a part of the trigger on either rifle? It is a component of the bolt and altered or not will not cause either rifle to discharge when released.

Argue if you want to... the simple facts are:
Safeties and triggers are linked in operation on all rifles... Model 70's and M98's are no exception ... if you engage a safety and pull the trigger the rifle should not fire... it also should not fire when you disengage the safety. That's what occurred. It does not matter if the safety is on the trigger housing or on the bolt or within the stock or in the action... you should understand that concept.

I once had a shotgun discharge on me with my fingers nowhere near the trigger. To this day I don't know why, but ever since I have had a strong distrust of safeties. I prefer a hammer. To me, it's a millisecond to #### a hammer (and much quieter than chambering a round).

Too bad they don't still make pump shotguns with hammers. :(

And from Blackhawk Down....

[Troops are having an impromptu barbecue with a wild boar killed by Hoot.]
Captain Steele: Sergeant, what's going on here?
Hoot: Oh, just some aerial target practice, sir. Didn't want to leave it behind.
Steele: I'm talking about your weapon. [points to Hoot's slung M4] Delta or no Delta, that's a hot weapon. You know better than that. Your safety should be on at all times on base.
Hoot: [holding up his index finger] Well, this is my safety, sir.
