I distinctly remember buying ammunition from walmart but don't see any now.
Have they stopped selling hunting gear or what?
I've been to 3 different stores and there is no hunting section there at all. No archery, no clothing, naddda.

Some stores have it, some don't. Personally, I would rather pay one or two dollars more to support a local gun store. Walmart won't give a shmit when your gun breaks and they are the only store left in town. The future supply and service of firearms and ammunition is dependent on who you support now.

I have bought .22's from there, a few times. It's real close to my house on the way to the range. Not a huge selection of ammo but this is perfect for a little guy to load into a 10/22 via a Butler 25 round mag. and pew pew with. Happy days!

Depends on the Wallmart. Some carry ammo, some don't. I know the one in Bolton used to then stopped. Orangeville always did and still does. Further from Toronto your chances probably increase.

The Walmart in Cornwall sells ammo and hunting gear (mostly Remington jackets/pants etc..) and a few other odds and ends. I've picked up some bulk .22 and cheap .223 there in the past. They haven't re-stocked in over 6 months. Most of the centerfire, especially the Federal stuff, has been sitting on the shelf for years.

They won't let you buy it without giving your address and phone number though. I've argued with them that it's not a requirement (the local Canadian Tire only takes your PAL info) but they won't budge on their policy.

Think about it. The market is very limited when it comes to ammunition sales but that market has hundreds of calibers and many variations of each. Walmart has a limited amount of space to be tied up with slow moving expensive inventory. Sears, The Bay, any number of outdoor stores and others have no ammo period. The hassles of ammo sales are often not worth the headaches. Lockups, sales people who may or may not be licensed, log books etc. Here in Alliston both Walmart and Canadian Tire sell ammo but very limited selection and prices are average. TSC has 5% off ammo this week but again, limited selection. The closest hunting/sports shop has more selection but prices are still no great deal. I do not see lots of people getting into the ammo sales game. If it was profitable and easy there would be half a dozen vendors at the 400 Market on the weekends.

True, WM ammo selection has been falling, I refuse to buy ammo at that WM and I have contacted the manager in writing about it CT is a little better but still does the walk of shame.

Excellent points.. the bylaws also hinder what a store can sell and who (staff) as mentioned.. Hit and miss around here.. Walmart wants sale easy and fast

Right on man.

If Walmart for some reason became the only source, I'd never buy factory again.

Well I'm looking for a budget duck hunting jacket and some 22 bulk ammo. Can't find either of those things at a gun store. Only duck hunting jackets I've seen are $298 +tax browning jackets and the ammo is $10 CCI blazer. I want a box of Win 555 40gr/38gr copper plated RNHP 22LR.
Both seem to be unobtainium

They'll give you the walk of shame if you buy anything out of the locked cabinet apparently...even if it's a hopper for a paintball gun. Yet WM with their extra high security paperwork is more than happy to let me buy the ammo at the sports department cash and then wander the store aimlessly with a bag full of bullets.
