I have been trying the find a place in Edmonton that sells small pieces of walnut and my internet searches have been confusing to say the least. Dose anyone know of a place in Edmonton I can buy a small piece (like a knife handle sized piece) of walnut?

If you have a Windsor Plywood Store, they will have a scrap bin with what you're looking for or smaller pieces you can cut up for such things.

Windsor Plywood. Again.

For the most part, you really need to broaden your horizons, if you want anything in particular (like wood fit for stock making, for ex.). And be willing to trust the Vendor's grading.

I have a bunch of leftover Turkish walnut from stock making, might be able to help you out. Feel free to pm if interested.

Channing Hardwoods also have a good selection of exotic wood

I think you mean Chanin Hardwoods. I just learned of this place the other day, haven't checked it out yet.

Windsor Plywood always has something, although typically not very fancy figured woods. If my memory is correct, Superior Lumber had a few pieces of walnut in their show room as well.

Windsor plywood in Leduc will cut to your size requirements and price accordingly. So you don’t have to buy the full board.
They usually have a good selection of smaller sizes of exotic woods.

Every Windsor Ply. store I have been in always has a great selection, Some of it will give you sticker shock these days.
There are better woods then walnut for knives, but walnut is easy to find and not expensive.
I have a short plank left I think, and bits of purple heart, that is quite hard, and harder to work ,I use to turn it.
Lee Valley has small pieces for knives and turning blanks, I have seen it about 1 1/2 or 2" sq x 12" long in Saskatoon .

Scrap gunstocks can also be a source of decent wood.
I have lots of clear plain grained well air dried walnut, some maple, cherry. Nothing fancy grained. I could send you bits and pieces. Scales could go letter rate, blocks would have to go parcel, that gets pricey for essentially worthless bits of wood.
