Walnut stock for Norinco M305/M-14S?

I'd like to hear from Norinco owners/members who have replaced their plastic stocks with wooden ones.
Boyd's say that modification of their walnut stocks is required to accomodate the Norinco, namely around the gas port and receiver, but they don't say how much mod is required.
The other source I've looked at sells milsurp M-14 stocks, but no mention of fitting them to the M-14S.
I'm not going for the Bubba look--I want a 'standard military' look.

If any member has done this replacement, I'd like to hear from them.

Covered on numerous posts. Most guys are going the other way. Trying to fit a U.S. issue fibreglas stock to a Chinese rifle. In any case, they're basically the same rifle with a different name.
 
I got a commercial M1A stock from Treeline a while back...it has some issues. The action fit the top of the stock well enough, but I had to relieve the bottom of the stock quite a bit to get the trigger guard to lock up properly. Now it fits tight, but there appears to be some problems with the bolt cycling...it loads okay manually, but the hammer doesn't stay back in SA firing. I don't know yet if it's the stock causing some binding or another issue. The gun works fine in a GI fiberglass stock however...I'm starting to like that stock more and more.

On a separate issue, I installed an Ultimak scout rail on my first M305 but I'm not at all pleased with the fit...I have to tinker with it more, I suspect.
 
I bought a USGI walnut stock and my norinco dropped right in. it was a little tight closing the trigger guard but with a little force it locked in fine.
 
@cdnred: What was the source of your USGI stock? Treeline says they "Cannot ship to : Canada."

Also, how much different is the M-1A to the M-14?
I trained on the M-1 Garand, and was issued an M-14 when I was deployed...but that was a loooong time ago.

Did your rifle pass the hammer follow through test after? Mine needed fitting to the wood GI stock because of hammer follow through. If the fit of the trigger guard is too tight hammer follow through is sometimes a problem and needs to be fixed before firing! Be sure to check for it.
 
@sporting lad, I got my stock from ellwood epps in Orillia with tax and shipping it came to $150. it's a great stock a few dings, most of which I was able to steam out. and strong proof marks and DOD cartouche.

Being a fellow Canuck, maybe you can explain to me this "cannot ship to: Canada" thing.
Is there some sort of import/export restriction on American lumber?

And is Ellwood in the stocks business, or was this a one-time thing?

I found an old Norc wood stock on E&E, $40 shipped!!! It dropped in, like it was made for it(LOL),and shoots great. A few scuffs but it looks like a battle rifle, perfect! I think the guy had a few stocks for sale, check out E&E.
