Walnut Stock Shine Care

How would you take care of a highly polished walnut stock. Do you just wipe it down with a dry rag to clean it?. The dark walnut seems to be polished over really thick and shiny, scared to ruin it. Is there something I could rub on to help keep its luster without ruining the shine?

Aubie: Tru-oil is an actual finish. You probably don't need that. I suggest you go to an antique or fine furniture shop and get a can of Carnauba paste wax. Come in different brand names. Lee Valley catalogues it. Is sometimes referred to as museum grade wax. It is a hard wax when dry and buffs up to a great shine if that is what you want. Will not be tacky to the face or hands. Provides good water protection to the wood and the metal as well if you want to apply it there..

Thanks stocker! I also have a de-blued receiver. I usually use Nevr-dull polish but I will try carnauba on it as well, appreciate it!

clenzoil... I threw out all my other cleaning supplies. After watching bryan belinski of fieldsport ltd in michigan wipe down and polish up his $ 25,000 number 1 AYA, I was sold.

Kiwi shoe polish. The same color as your stock. If you already have a non plastic coating on the stock, it will be perfect for polishing and touch ups.

Cheap, easy to find and effective.

order directly from fieldsport ltd, not sure if they have a cdn. distributor. they will ship to canada. I use it inside and out, on the stock, bore, internals, everything. google clenzoil, you can order direct from them, cabela's in the states carries it as well.

I've heard it was good stuff, and I've seen it advertised in the 'Shotgun News.'

I've been using Break-Free or Corrosion X, after cleaning with Kroil mixed with Hoppes.

They work fine, but my ears always perk up when something new comes along!
