I noticed the GSP has a serial number on the upper receiver that holds the barrel and not on the traditional lower grip part. Which part is considered the firearms receiver? I ask because I want to know if a .32 conversion unit needs to be registered as a separate firearms as it includes the upper receiver with a serial number.

GSPs are registered by the serial on the receiver - the 'tube' holding barrel and bolt - so yes a 32 top unit is registered as a separate firearm.
FYI I went through a horrendous time with mine - registered on the old green slips - when the new rules came in and I sold off the OSP the firearms people cancelled the GSP and GSP-C because they had been on a 3 part registration. Eventually resolved but not before I had the ONLY registered Walther trigger unit in the country - courtesy of an idiot so-called 'archivist' at the central registry.

For what it's worth... For my GSP, it's the frame that is registered... The top units, are just like the AR upper receiver, they are non controlled items.

Had an interesting little chat with a RCMP firearm technician... Since the serial number is on the upper... to make a long story short, they sent me a sticker to put on the frame and insisted the frame be registered.

Can't remember the guy's name... must have been 4 years ago.

It got started when I received another registration certificate that no longer listed the sticker #. (The original green slip had the number from the slide.)

After a few minutes on the phone with the friendly staff for Miramichi, I got transfer to one of their firearm technician... He didn't know why the sticker # wasn't on the cert...

When I bought my Walther GSP 22/32 set, the CFO made the gunshop electric stencil the serial number under the grips, I have no idea why they did this ,but it was 10 years ago and I nolonger have the gun?Dale Z!

Sometimes the registration people can be obtuse, but when I hassled the Alberta CFO about these issues (in the last 6 months) they reissued registration cards with the topunit serial numbers on them, the previous ones did not have any serial number. Also had stickers on the trigger units, so when I replaced one of the triggers, technically the gun became un-registered.
