I have recently acquired a P-1, I have found that the safety does not drop the hammer. It will engage just fine when the hammer is down but not when it is back. Has anyone experienced this? I don't see it as a serious issue as I don't really trust hammer drop safeties anyway, I used to have an old CZ 70 .32 that went off every time I used the hammer drop safety (that was an interesting first day) anyway I am wondering if there is an easy fix for this or should it be okay if I don't bother? Thanks

You might remove the safety from the slide and see if the part is broken. As "Dsiwy" wrote, the problem could just as easily be due to other parts. They're easy enough to get at. You could go on line and get the instructions to take the mechanism apart. It hould be fixable fairly easily, if you can find a source for parts. Good luck with it.

Mine does the same thing.

With the pistol unloaded, obviously, try pulling back the hammer a bit while engaging the safety, see if it wants to drop then.

My P38 will drop the hammer when the safety is engaged so I did a field strip on both pistols and removed the grip panels, the shape of the cutout in the "hammer lowering lever" is slightly
different and this is what I attribute to the problem. (part #29 on this diagram http://www.robertrtg.com/p1.html )
