Just doing a general inquiry on the Walther P-22 in .22l.r. and was wondering what the latest verdict on this target piece is in terms of what ammo it prefers, what kind of accuracy can be expected and what likes and dislikes are out there currently.

It's a nice little gun, but it can be very picky and troublesome if you don't get a good one.

High velocity ammo usually works really well, and accuracy is pretty standard.

Jackpine,

I have one and love it, but don't call it a "target" piece... it's a plinker through and through...

I could fly a plane between my front site blade and the spots on either side of my rear site picture...

shoots straight though, maybe new sites would help.

Break her in with CCI stingers or MiniMags and then she'll eat most anything (Regular velocity and up, no sub's)

Just search P22, I've typed alot on this gun, as have many others...

PS, GET SOMETHING PAST A 2004!!!

+1

I have had no problems with mine and I have had 1000's or rounds of ammo through her...

Mine worked well with any HV .22lr. Minimags seem to be a little better than if I had to choose a round.

The P22 is not a target pistol. Great learner gun or plinker once you work the bugs out. As mentioned earlier, visit rimfirecentral.com, there a forum section for P22's there.

If your looking for more accurate .22 pistols try a Ruger, Buckmark or the S&W M41. Either are hugely more precise firearms.

I traded my P22 in for a BM Target 5.5, and then found a low serial number M41. Both are superb and are tons more fun to shoot then the P22 IMO.

I have one its a piece of junk buy a ruger and the service stinks when it breaks after about 500rds it was in for a warranty repair for about 4months ,and yes I bought from a store that advertises on this forum but that's another story:mad:

Have a look at this thread:

Between my girlfriend and I, we have the P22, the SIG Mosquito and a Ruger 22/45. I like the Ruger, but we have had by far the most problems with it compared to the other two .22's. We ended up having to send it back to the distributor in Montreal to get checked out and repaired.

I love the P22. It is one of my favorite guns. I've shot about 10,000 rounds through mine now and have not had any serious problems. A few fail to feed and fail to ejects, but always with cheap lead ammo. Never any problems with Mini-mag type ammo.

My advice on this gun reamins the same: (1) yes it is a very small gun, don't buy it if you don't like that aspect of it; (2) use Mini-mag type ammo (copper plated, high velocity) or expect a few problems; (3) you have to clean it thoroughly after every use, or you will have problems.

P22

I have no problem with mine. It is a plinker with factory sights but is quite accurate with a red dot sight, looks cool and tons of fun.

I remember phoning Walther about ammo preference and I think they said high velocity.

I had one and loved it, only sold it to buy another toy and try it, but it's on my short list to get another one.
I did find it a bit small for my hand though......
I fed it anything, and all the people that whine about ejected brass in face, peice of junk, and what not are usually talking about pre-2005(not positive of date) models, and the newer ones are pretty reliable.
I will add though, that it is pretty accurate, but my g/f ruger is more accurate, and so was my S&W 22A.

Many thanks to all who responded to my query about the Walther P-22 where the opinions of shooters' experiences are the best source for real world factual accounts of what to expect from anything manufactured in this day and age of very questionable advertising and promotion.
