So the slide on my P22 cracked right below where the front sight should be. Im wondering if this can be reinforced and welded (dont care if it looks ugly) or if Im looking for a new slide? If I am looking for a new slide, does anyone know what company distributes Walther in Canada?

Thanks,
Rob

Just welding up the crack is no big deal as long as it is weldable metal. The question is Why did it crack in the first place? That and you would have to check and adjust to make sure everything lines up correctly. It might be more cost effective to find another slide if possible. If not, how much is the gun worth it might make sense to sell off the good parts and pick up another gun.

There was a recall on the P22's for the slide cracking. I know when mine cracked I took it back the the dealer where I bought it and they sent it back to Walther. If I remember correctly it took 5 or 6 weeks and I had a new slide with matching numbers.

My break is a little cleaner but in the same place and to the same extent. So the verdict seems to be that welding is not an option even with steel reinforceing, so I guess what Im after is the distributor for Walther.

How common an issue is this? I was considering buying a P22 instead of a Mosquito due to reliability issues but maybe I have to reconsider now?

Hi

The S&W produced P22's have a spotty record. I would go for something else if you are worried about reliability. My personal favorite is a Ruger Mk II or Mk III.

Thanks for the advice pa guns, I like the looks of the Mosquito & P22 but at the end of the day I prefer something that works. I'll look at the Rugers, they're cheaper too.
