Hey Folks,
recently purchased a used Walther P22 target with a 5" barrel and compensator.
The gun was well used and is now having some issues.
When I first picked it up, the slide felt really sticky/gummy and the hammer did not always #### into SA when the slide cycles back during a shot. There are some FTF and FTE issues a well.
I figured at least part of the problem is a dirty gun. So I stripped it down, dirty VERY dirty indeed. I have since cleaned and lubricated the gun. I have not shot it yet, but I did notice that when I cycle the slide, the hammer does not always catch into the fully cocked position. On further investigation, it appears that the slide can sometimes ride up too high when it is cycling back, and therefore not fully catching and pushing the hammer back. The rear of the slide appears to have play that will allow it to move up away from the guide rails at the back of the gun. I think this is why I am having the hammer cocking issue. If I pull the slide back, while exerting mild downward force, the hammer always cocks back.

Having said all that, and suggestions on a fix? and or a good Gunsmith in the GTA that is willing to get my gun back in shape????
I have done a bit of you tubing and reading, seems filing down parts is part of the potential solution.
Trying to make an informed decision here.
Thanks in advance

I'd also check the safety pivot block for excessive wear. This is the main bearing surface that rides over the hammer to cook. Might be a simple replacement if you can source the part. Some folks over smooth that area to slick up the cycling action.... Or it could be a cracked slide. Hope you find a quick fix.

Thanks for the advice.
I had read that the slides crack, did not see evidence of that.
Did not know about the safety pivot block. I'll look later today.

Also check how far out of battery you can hold the slide and still drop the hammer. The slides used to be (still are?) made of pot metal and will get chewed up over time. My club had to retire two of these pistols for excess wear.
