I think this thread would be more fitting here than in the Pistols and revolvers sub forum.

I am looking at acquiring one in the near future, either Pre WW2 or WW2 issue and Third Reich marked and preferably matching. I am curious what the going price would be on one ?

Thanks guys.

In real estate it's all about location. In firearms, it's all about condition and accessories. A decent all steel P38, Nazi marked and matching will start at $600. Then you have to factor in the manufacturer. An all matching specimen in excellent condition with holster and belt in similar condition will run up to $1200 as long as the accessories are excellent as well.

It's about rarity. Check the following links here:

A postwar P38 is quite cheap, dealers list them for under $300. I would rather buy a P1 postwar than a P38 as it is more reliable.

There is no prewar P38.

Absolutely, check the referenced links. Condition, date, manufacturer and condition are of the utmost importance. The development of the P38 lead the way to the modern manufacture of most semi-automatic double action pistols today! Zero series, dual tones, 44/45 gray ghosts are worth the most.(check proof marks) Period era holster will offer the best price possible. Post war P 38's are just nice pistols without any history!
Stay away from any electo-pencil markings as these have been ***ked with

Photos will be posted shortly on forum!

Now that we have dealt with that...lets talk M/C 96 Broomhandles:)

My HP P38 has electro-penciled serial numbers? And most if not all that I have seen also have the same electro-pencil markings?

15567, you need to get around more, electro penciled parts really arn't the norm on P38s.

I have seen many P38s and own a few. At one time considered completing the set to include all the major versions, but they are not my major interest.

The most memorable ones I have seen were all brand new in a crate and were consecutively numbered.

Some of the electro pencil jobs in my collection of other pistols have distinctive sunburst markings attributed to the defunct VoPo (East German police). I suspect that my HP P38 falls in that category as well.

Nabs,

Get out of my head! You and I seem to be following the EXACT same path of darkness! I am saving up to buy a wartime P38 here in the spring.

LOL, well its nice to know I'm not alone in my quest.

I bought an SKS earlier today so perhaps that will be the defining difference ? :D

I bought 2 SKS's earlier this year before they flooded the market again. a 54 Tula I ended up trading for a M305 (once again, before they flooded the market) and a 54 IZH that is unfired and unrefurbed. Still have that one.
