Are there any lefties out there that own Walther P99. Just wanted their input on it since I'm a lefty and I noticed it doesn't have the ambidextrous slide release.

Ok let me put it a different way. Can I get a left handed persons experience with handguns that are not ambidextrous. Im looking for my first handgun and I'm looking at the P99 but the slide lock is only on the right. Just wondering if it's awkward to handle for a left handed shooter

The new P99's in the stores have ambidextrous slide stops. The gun is very friendly to lefties. The decocking button is on the left side of the slide and may be a bit awkward to use. However I typically use the AS mode for carry which only requires you to draw slide back a quarter inch to reset the trigger in the forward position.

If you don't mind the extended barrel, the PPQ is a better choice, since you don't need to decock or reset the AS trigger before holstering. If you're only doing target practice, it's a non issue!

the PPQ was my first choice but the barrel bothers me too much so i was looking at the P99 instead. I was going to wait for the PPQ to come out in a .40 to get it. I see wanstalls has the P99 I'll check with them if theirs is ambidextrous

A number of shops are selling P99 AS for around $820. This is a heck of a deal as they were over $1K when they first came out.

What is the QA i haven't seen any. Epps is usually priced very well but I did notice they were way high on the P99. I saw them at CanadaAmmo but ut doesn't say anything about it being ambidextrous. I left a post for them no replies yet. I'll wait a few more days then I'll call or email. It's not a huge rush but the sooner the better :)

M&p

Buy the very reasonable S&W M&P 9mm. Top quality, great accuracy, very friendly to LH shooters. Buy the range kit with accessories, about C$700.00. S&W has made a ton of these models and aftermarket parts are showing up in droves. [barrels, sights, trigger kits, etc]
Only problem is a LH holster for it. I got a FOBUS LH M&P 9mm holster for mine that does the job nicely.

QA stands for Quick action, its single action stiker fired .beautiful,l light, crisp trigger and break smooth pull short reset.
i never shot the AS version .

As a lefty who has only before fired weapons with the military, I have to say that I would strongly recommend the P99. I guess I am a bit biased (the browning sucks) but using the browning for so long as a left handed shooter was very annoying. I know a lot of lefties just shoot with their right hand in the military to avoid the trouble. I just got my P99 from Canada ammo a few weeks ago, and I have to say I love it. I haven't been able to get down to the range with it yet, but the handling is superb with the ambi slide and mag release.

I do agree with the earlier comment that the decocking button is somewhat awkward to use as a lefty, but definitely manageable. Canada Ammo was selling them pretty cheap (somewhere in the $800s), hopefully they still have a few in so you can snag one, also these are the Walther direct models not the S&W, so you dont have to pay a price increase for the Walther version.

So the ones form canada ammo do have the ambi slide release. That's what I've been trying to find out in their section ty for the replies.
