Hey everybody.

So I know that the P99 has a small extension for the 9mm model but does the .40SW model too?
I've heard mixed answers anybody own one?
Cheers

I believe the 40 S&W has a 106mm barrel flush with the front of the slide. The 9mm with the 100mm barrel was flush as well, but since that would make it prohib in Canada, we get them with 106 mm barrels that stick out a little.

Someone with a P99 in 40 want to chime in?

No need for me to since this is correct but.... lol...

Former P99 owner, had the .40, the barrel does not stick out the front as the slide is slightly longer (and shaped slightly differently) on the .40 v 9mm.

My p99 is the best gun in the world. A fine piece of German engineering that fits my hand beautifully and hasn't even hiccuped in 2500 rounds

My first pistol was the 9mm AS(anti stress) that I bought used off of a friend. I love mine and it has been flawless for 6000 rounds with about 4000 of those being reloads. Only failures that I have seen were a result of the ammo (first few reloads that I was working up, and one double feed that was the result of improperly loaded mag), not a single failure that was attributed to the pistol.

They are great guns for sure, very underrated in my opinion.

I blame the lack of marketing/support in N America (ie letting S&W handle it when they would be more invested in pushing the similar M&P), the unit cost, and availability of parts/accessories for the relative failure of the P99. Based on how awesome the gun is, it should have been one of the most popular ones! The PPQ seems to be picking up all the momentum the P99 should have so at least Walther is getting some recognition.

I have a P99 AS and really like the decocking system. Just wondering why not as popular like CZ or other 9mm semi.

I see that the OP's question has already been answered, so I'll just feel free to chime in with the superlatives ;)
P99 is a great gun, fitting my hand like a glove (and if that is not the case for your hand size, it comes with 2 extra grip inserts of different sizes).
I had a 9 mm P99 for over a decade in my country of origin but, alas, the stupid regulations here make it a prohib so I couldn't import it. Well, I settled for the longer-barrel one ;)
I have to admit it looks a little unnatural (and a tad less ###y than the European model) with these extra 4 mm of the barrel sticking out in front of the slide... Oh well.

A side comment on the comparison to CZ though: granted, it's incredibly, almost eerily much easier to achieve tight groups with CZ (especially Shadow) first time you use it; P99 takes some getting used to, until then it may very well be all over the place. I haven't found an intelligent explanation for this phenomenon yet ;)

Just my 2 cents.
