Hey guys,

Xmas present to myself this year will be a good quality compact handgun and I cannot decide between the Creed or P99.

Hoping some folks with experience owning either firearm could chime in and share their thoughts!

I would truly like a Boberg XR9-L but no way am I paying the price for it.

Thanks guys

The Creed is an improved economy PPX and the P99 was James Bond’s gun. Go with the P99.

I have a PPX for a few years and I don't think that the Creed is at all "improved" compared to the PPX. The Creed has more rounded features externally, a bit different grip and trigger guard but internally the PPX and Creed are the same pistol. Exactly the same weight.
When the Creed became available I had some idea to sell my PPX and buy the Creed. After examining the latter I decided it was not worth it. I'll stick to the PPX till I'll shoot it out completely and then throw it away. Honestly, the PPX/Creed is not a bad pistol but the P99 is definitely way ahead.
I agree, go with the P99.

The P99 hands down if you want to pay the extra money. It's kind of an apples to oranges comparison between the 2. Go with the Creed or PPX If you're looking for a budget friendly gun. Another option to the P99 would be the PPQ Navy.

You realize that neither of the 2 are considered compact, right? Especially if you’re using the Boberg as a baseline.

No actually I didn't.

Barrel length is 4.1" on the P99 so I assumed it would be similar to the Boberg. I am looking specifically for a compact gun, maybe I've gone down to wrong rabbit hole.

Any suggestions?

We are in Canada so the P99 and G19 are about as compact as it gets without a ridiculous Pinocchio barrel.
e.g., Canadian Glock 26

I have the P99 and love it. It is a compact package for sure.

The Boberg really is the exception because of the "bull pup" design so you could hold out for a used model or wait until it is reintroduced by Bond Arms. (Assuming any come to Canada) The HK P7 is also compact but still not that small overall and very expensive these days.

I came close a few times over the years and I finally picked up a .40 P99 last year. It's one of the original variants—an 'AB' dated one so that makes it about 16 years old. I like the trigger a lot—I had thought it would be more like the LEM H&Ks that I've owned (and sold...I didn't care for them) but I like this one better.

Canadian 9mm P99s have a slightly extended barrel...it's not bad, but I like the flush look that the .40 slide/barrel has since the slide is a smidge longer on the .40. I like the slide "notches" in the 9mm version a bit more though—the .40 slide looks a little plain in comparison.

The grip felt a little odd to me when dry-firing at home–the "hump" at the back felt off, and the grip itself was a little slippery, too. But once I shot it it felt great–there were no issues with comfort at all. I've had other pistols that felt similarly odd but shot great at the range –the H&K P7 is one example. There is some "punch" to the recoil, of course, but little muzzle flip.

The best of all worlds would be the new Gen2 M&P Compact mated with the 4.25" slide. Write S&W and ask for it. They will eventually react. We then get rid of the pimple effect and we get a gun about the same size as the Glock 19 without the pimple.

Take Care

Bob

Did you end up shooting the Creed to compare to the PPX?

No. I didn't shoot the Creed. I just examined it side by side with the PPX at my local gun store. All parts in the Creed are exactly the same like these in the PPX: the barrel, the recoil spring, the slide etc. The dimensions are exactly the same. The Creed's grip is a bit slimmer but that's all.
I bought my PPX as a "range kit" for measly $419 from Tenda, a few years ago, which includes 3 high quality mags (Italian), a holster and a magazine pouch, all in a very nice Walther pistol case. The Creed would cost me about $150 more without all the goodies so I quit.

I would take the Creed. I have owned the PPX and held the P99 and the PPX/Creed fit my hand better than the majority of guns I have held. Although the Creed is bulkier it is a very easy gun to manipulate, the slide has plenty of grip and lots of room. The PPX/Creed also had an excellent trigger.

I would only take the P99 because it was Bonds gun and looks cooler.

I currently also own the Boberg, it feels awsome and fits my hand well, it feels like the gun Bond should have.
