Looking for my first handgun. Wanted a polymer, 9mm and around $700 or less.

Had a look at a few on the weekend. I'm leaning towards the Walther PPX range kit but I'd like to see if anyone has anything good or bad to say about them.

Got one two weeks ago. I bought the pistol for others to use as part of some club training we are doing. I did one range trip to try it out. I normally shoot Sigs but found the grip comfortable. I put 40 rounds no range with out a problem, no FTF or FTE. The controls are easy to use and the trigger is lighter than I expected. I did find it has a lot of muzzle flip.

My nephew and a woman I work with have also been using it, about 100 rounds total. Again no problems and the have smaller hands but no issue racking the slide, release the slide stop, or changing mags. My nephews only problem is when he is proving the firearm clear he can pull the slide back and can hold it back but has trouble pushing the slide stop lever up the lock the slide back.

Overall I am happy with it.

Well. I went to buy the Walther PPX and some how ended up buying a Sig Sauer P226R... I think I will be happy! But I won't know for 5 days.. Apparently a new waiting period for first time buyers.. Yay for new CFO BS.....

So I now have my first hand gun! Thanks for all the input anyway guys!! :)

There is a standard transfer process for all restricted sales and it usually takes a week or two. Took 2 weeks for my Walther PPQ. Don't think there's anything new from the CFOs on this one...

It's a day or two tops for a transfer in Ontario....if you buy from a dealer.

regardless from who you buy, it's 1 day or two in Ontario. Bought a Glock off a cgner last week, transfer took 1 day.

This being my first restricted I don't have a lot(any) experience with this; however the guys at CSC informed me this was a new rule that was recently (2 weeks ago) implemented by the Alberta CFO. It purportedly only applies to first time buyers. So if you already have a restricted you don't need to wait 5 days, only the time it takes to have the ATT issued.

That being said... After blowing my budget of $700 it gives me 5 days to save money to buy ammo. :)

Also I need a holster now... Anyone suggestions?

Death by a thousand cuts. Why would they do this? You are vetted when you have the RPAL!

Depends, what is this for? IPSC, IDPA, General range use?

I'm really new to this. So far I've been shooting my buddy's M&P. I have not participated in any organized event/clubs. Thus far its been only range use but I may in the future want to participate in IDPA or IPSC.. We are having some 3 gun events at my club/range this summer that i would like to participate in. I don't know if there are holster rules for that.

I'll place emphasis on the fact I know next to nothing about IPSC or IDPA.. I have been told IDPA is better but this was just one guy's opinion about the two.

Something like a Fobus paddle holster would be a good inexpensive start. Can be used in IDPA as well as IPSC. IDPA just has more restrictions on the type of holster you can use (no drop and offset holster, race holsters, etc).

Thanks for the advice!! I did a quick google search and saw a few. Very reasonably priced! Are these items that can be ordered from a usa based website? Mag holder and holster? I see them on ebay and amazon too.

went to Bullseye sports in London on Wednesday and looked at this PPX range kit
Held the gun found it very light
grips felt good and the kit is a good value
get holster for the gun and from what the dealer said sometimes getting accessories specific for that particular gun may be hard to find so helps in that respect. I too was looking for first gun and ended up at gobles and purchased a cz 85 b
Had my eye on that model because of ambi controls a son is lefty and I am right handed so works out good for both of us.Best advice I can give is the same as I got
Pick them up feel them and see how they sit in your hand. Get the best one you can afford at the time and learn to shoot it well.
